Seminar in Administrative Theory
Catalog Description
(Recommended: LI 805.) This course examines a series of theories, models, and concepts that
provide insight into the management of organizations, the people and tasks of an organization,
and the work, activities, and processes within an organization. (Approved 3/9/2015)
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Identify and explain the theoretical foundations and key strands of library
and information studies research pertaining to administrative theory.
Discuss student’s own administrative experience, placing it within the

context of appropriate administrative theory.
Analyze and discuss key concepts, themes, scholars, and theories, placing

them within the context of major perspectives of administration theory.
4 Lead an in-depth discussion on a topic related to administrative theory

Write and defend a scholarly paper (suitable for publication) explaining the
development and evolution of key concept (e.g., insights into the
management of organization; the people and tasks of an organization; and
5
work, activities, and processes in organizations, etc.) in administrative
theory, including an intellectual biography of a major contributor to
scholarly work related to that idea.
