Surgery News:
We are pleased to announce that Dr Webb is expecting and will be on maternity
leave from the 30th June for a year. Dr Nick Lewis will be covering Dr Webb’s
surgeries.
The surgery building will be undergoing external
refurbishments in late May early June but will still be
offering a full service. We apologise in advance for any
disturbance this may cause.
CQC Inspection
The CQC inspected the surgery in September 2016 and pronounced that the
surgery was GOOD. Their findings can be reviewed here
Pharmacy Information
Please remember that you can always visit your local pharmacist for advice and
over the counter medication for minor ailments
Hay Fever Season:
Hay fever season is creeping upon us, now is the time to start prevention medications to help keep
symptoms at bay. Waiting until your nose is streaming is often too late to take control, see your local
pharmacist for advice.
Travel Advice:
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to fill out this online form first and
then make an appointment with the practice nurse.
It is important to make this appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as
the vaccines may have to be ordered as they might not be a stock vaccine.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
Europe & Russia
North America
Central America
South America
Caribbean
Africa
Middle East
Central Asia
East Asia
Australasia and Pacific
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above
the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services
provided by the NHS.
Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European
website.
Cancer Screening Programme
In the UK there are national screening programmes for breast, cervical and bowel cancer. There
is no screening programme for prostate cancer because the PSA test is not reliable enough, but
men over 50 can have the test if they ask for it.
Breast screening is offered to women aged 50-70 in all UK nations. Women over 70 can still be
screened, but will need to make their own appointment as they will not get an invitation. In
England, this age range is gradually being extended to 47-73.

Cervical screening is offered to women aged 25-64 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Bowel screening is offered to men and women aged 60-74 in England, Wales and Northern
Ireland. In England, a new test called Bowel Scope is starting to be offered to people at age 55.

Biography
This quarter, Dr Tom Gayton tells us a bit about himself:
“I grew up in Brighton in the Eighties and Nineties and moved away to St
Andrews and later to Manchester to study medicine. I have lived in most
parts of the country over the last 20 years but always longed to return
to Sussex and in particular Brighton. I moved back with my family in
2013 and will have been at Montpelier Surgery for four years in July.
I enjoy the work of a General Practitioner and the variety it brings. I
value working in a small team and like the ethos of Montpelier Surgery
in trying to keep our practice as a “Family Practice” where the majority
of the time there is continuity of care between a particular healthcare
professional and a patient.
Outside of medicine I enjoy the outdoors and almost every sport,
although I now seem to spend more time watching it than playing it.”

DNA Policy:

and required to find an alternative doctor.
If you cannot attend your appointments for any reason please let us know as soon as
possible, giving at least 24 hours notice. We can then offer the appointment to someone
else.
