HISTORIC INDIANS Kenneth, Andrik, Jackson, Hailey, Emma, Bentley UTE’S TRIBE LOCATION They are also the largest historic group in CO. The Ute’s lived in the mountains and along the mesas of the Western Slope They also lived in the San Luis Valley SHELTER The Ute Indians lived in shelters called Wickiups They built Wickiups by long big thick tree trunks First they removed the branches, then they leaned tree trunks together to form a cone shaped frame, they tied poles together at the top, on one side the left an opening for the door then covered it with leaves and hide. HOW THE UTES GOT THERE FOOD The UTES were hunter gathers and moved from place to place frequently as they gather food for their family. UTE men hunted deer, elk, buffalo, and small game, Ute Indians also love to eat grasshopper's and other insects. UTE women gathered berries and they also gathered nuts. TRADITIONS The UTE Indians always treed the elders with kindness and respect The UTE tribe celebrates the “ Bear Dance”, the sun dance which celebrate the coming of spring The dances are over a 100 years old ! INTERESTING FACTS The Utes have a tribal membership of 2,970 people And over half its population is living on the reservation Ute people moved from place to place going back and forth
