Project Work 1

TOPICS: COVERS ANY OF THE TOPICS TAUGHT IN MATHS SMART
TEXTBOOKS 4A AND 4B
Pairwork (
)
Part 1
You are to design a game show that you can conduct in your class. Your teacher will assign
each pair a topic or up to two topics to work on. Your game show must cover content that
you have learnt about in the specific topic(s) assigned to you. Bonus points will be given for
making the effort to incorporate additional content beyond the scope of the Maths SMART
Textbooks. Here are some ideas for additional content that you may like to think about:
 Can Maths be combined with other subjects such as Science?
 Do research on the topic and its history.
 Think about the topic and its application in real life.
Part 2
Come up with a detailed proposal describing your ideas for the game show. The duration of
your game show should approximately be the length of one Maths period. Your proposal
should cover the following:
 What is the title of your game show?
 What topic(s) from the Maths Smart Textbook(s) will your game show cover?
 Describe how the game show will take place step-by-step.
 What format does your game show take on? For example, is it in a question and answer
format? Will you be making the participants execute certain tasks?
 Describe the content that you propose to put in the game show. For example, if the
format of your game show takes the form of questions and answers, list the questions
that you will be asking. If your participants will be executing certain tasks, describe what
these tasks will be.
 Describe how the content of your game is related to the topic(s) that you have been
assigned.
 Come up with a scoring system for the game show.
 Do up a list of things that you will need to prepare for the game show before the
execution.

Maths SMART Grade 4 Project Work
Here are some things to consider when you propose your ideas:
 Is your game suitable for the class size?
 Is it easily carried out by the organisers as well as the participants?
Part 3
Do a short and simple verbal presentation in class. Talk briefly about the idea for your game
show. The purpose of this presentation is to get your classmates interested in your idea.
Your presentation will also help your teacher understand and review your proposal better
when you submit it to him/her.
Part 4
Submit your proposal to your teacher. Your teacher will choose the best proposal to be
executed in class.
NOTE TO PARENTS
Part 1
Revise the content in the Maths SMART Textbook together with your child
according to the topic(s) that has been assigned to him/her. Get your child to do
some additional research to help him/her brainstorm for possible ideas for the
game show. Ask him/her to pen these initial ideas down on paper.
Part 2
Develop the ideas that your child has thought of in part 1 to come up with the
finer details of the proposal. Encourage your child to think creatively and think
out of the box to come up with interesting ideas.
Part 3
Ask your child what he/she would like to talk about during the presentation. Help
your child sieve out the interesting and important points to talk about. Then
rehearse and practice for the presentation together with your child.
Part 4
If your child’s proposal gets chosen for execution, help him/her prepare the list of
things needed as stated in the proposal. Practice the plan of execution together
with your child.
