E STYLUS Use this tool to select players, levels and game pieces. During a game, tap the stylus once to select a space, then a second time to place the chip. STARTING A NEW GAME Press the ON / NEW GAME button to wake up the unit. Press NEW GAME for two seconds to start a new game. Model 8047 P/N 82347900 Rev.A Instruction Manual For 1 or 2 Player / Ages 8 and Up Use the stylus to select the 1-player or 2-player icon. If you select 1-player, the computer icon will illuminate and toggle back and forth with the 1-player icon to determine who moves first. Now you can select the skill level at which you wish to play. Level 1: Easiest Level 2: Harder OBJECT OF THE GAME You and your computer opponent will take turns placing a chip in various squares on the LCD screen. Each time you place a chip, you will "capture" 1 or more of the computer’s chips. The computer will also be capturing your chips. When the grid is completely full, the player with the most chips on the grid wins. Touch-screen Othello® can also be played against a human opponent, by choosing the 2-player game. BUTTON FUNCTIONS ON / NEW GAME Wakes the game from sleep mode. Starts a game at the last level where you left off. At any time during a game, you may hold this button down for two or three seconds to start a new game. START / REPLAY Begins game and allows you to replay your last move, if you change your mind and choose to make a different move. Replay can be used 1 time per game. SOUND Press to turn the sound ON or OFF. WIN % Press to see your win/loss ratio in the skill level you currently have selected. HINT If you are not sure where to place a chip, press this button and the computer will make a suggestion. You can only use this feature on Level One or Level Two on 1-player game and only up to 10 times per game. RESET Press (using stylus) to reset the game. Reset will erase all information currently in the game and will return it to the original settings from the factory. Level 3: Hardest When the level icon is illuminated on the screen, use the stylus to select the level you want to play. Select first move: After level has been selected, press START/REPLAY button to start the game. PLACE A CHIP During a game, use the stylus to place a chip. Each player starts with two chips in the middle of the grid/gameboard. You will see a Black chip appear in the top-left corner of the grid. If you have the black chip, use the Stylus to move your chip to a position in which you can capture a White chip between two of your Black chips. After capturing a White chip, it will turn into a Black chip. If the computer has the Black chips it will start first and capture one of your chips. Next, it will be your turn to try to capture one or more of the computer’s Black chips. Continue taking turns capturing chips until the entire board is full or until one player has no chips remaining. You can also capture multiple chips at the same time. The winner is the player with the most chips on the board at the end of the game. The game is a draw when each player has the same amount of chips at the end of the game. PASS The game will automatically pass your turn if there is no move available. WIN PERCENTAGE At any time during a game, you can press the WIN% button to see your win/loss ratio in the skill level in which you are playing. You will have a separate winning percentage for each skill level. NOTE: If you reset the internal computer (by pressing RESET) or remove and replace the batteries, your winning percentages will be erased. Select first move: RESTARTING THE GAME Press the ON/NEW GAME button down for two or three seconds to start a new game. REPLACING THE BATTERIES The automatic shutoff featured with Touch-screen Othello® will help extend the life of the batteries. This game is powered by two (2) AAA batteries. Install the batteries as follows: Select first move: 1. Remove the screw on the battery compartment door on the back unit. Remove the battery compartment door. Remove the old batteries. 2. Insert two (2) AAA batteries (we recommend alkaline), with the negative (-) ends against the springs, and the positive (+) ends against the flat metal contacts. 3. Replace the battery compartment door. ADULT SUPERVISION IS RECOMMENDED WHEN CHANGING BATTERIES. CAUTION: • As with all small batteries, the batteries used with this product should be kept away from small children. If the battery is swallowed, consult a physician immediately. • Always follow the game and battery manufacturers’ instructions. • The batteries might leak if improperly installed, or exploded if recharged, disassembled or heated. press the reset button. If problems continue, remove and replace the batteries — or try new batteries. If problems still continue, consult your warranty card for replacement instructions. • Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used. • Do not mix old and new batteries. • Do not use rechargeable batteries. • Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries. • Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. • Remove any exhausted batteries from the game. • The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited. • Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity.
