Clerc Genève - Clerc Watches

Clerc Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer
Two references distinguished by power, style and
technical sophistication
The iconic Hydroscaph collection by Clerc welcomes two new powerful
and sophisticated models. Designed to face the extreme conditions
prevailing in the depths of the ocean, the Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer
Carbon Edition and Hydroscaph C1 Chronometer Vancouver Bay Edition
embody modern watchmaking cut out for great feats. Water-resistant to
500 metres, these deep-sea explorers are equipped with a high-tech
patented case and an exclusive bezel avoiding any accidental
deregulation while diving. Their perfectly accurate cutting-edge
movement is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing
Institute (COSC).
Two special editions are joining the collection of Clerc Hydroscaph H1 diver’s
watches. The deep black Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer Carbon Edition features a
case combining the ultra-light, resistant character of carbon fibre with the
strength of steel. The Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer Vancouver Bay Edition, made
from high-density steel, celebrates the first underwater expedition marking the
partnership between Clerc Genève and the manufacturer of private submersibles,
Sub Aviator Systems. In terms of both development and testing, both have
benefited from cutting-edge technologies and trials in extreme conditions,
performed in the R&D lab of the world leader in marine technology.
A high-tech case and a crystal-clear display
The extremely technical 81-part case of the Hydroscaph H1 Chronograph is one
of the most complex on the market and its components are individually
machined. It complies with formidable standards and delivers guaranteed water
resistance to 500 metres. Its generous 43.8 (or 48 mm including case
protectors) diameter is topped by the iconic octagonal rotating bezel with its
exclusive locking device. Pivoting its dedicated 2 o’clock requires the prior
deployment of a retractable flap. Once the latter is returned to its initial retracted
position, the bezel is secured against any inadvertent deregulation during diving.
The 4 o’clock time-setting and winding grown ensures an optimal grip, while the
4 mm-thick sapphire crystal protects from scratches and violent impacts.
The apparently simple dial of the Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer models reflects
extreme care devoted to style and design. The individually fashioned, bevelled
and subtly trapeze-shaped three-dimensional numerals and hour-markers ensure
perfect read-off from any angle. Their optimal legibility is reinforced by a
Superluminova coating applied to the hands and hour-markers with their postindustrial design.
A powerful exploratory engine
At the heart of these two new exploration machines beats the exclusive Clerc
C609 calibre. This remarkably precise self-winding movement has successfully
undergone the stringent tests performed by the Swiss Official Chronometer
Testing Institute (COSC), thereby joining the select circle of authentic
chronometers certified by this prestigious body. While undeniably complex with
regards to its construction and its exceptional performance, it nonetheless
radiates simplicity in terms of its functions, displaying only essentials: hours,
minutes and seconds. Compliant in all respects with the demanding standards of
Haute Horlogerie, it beats at the high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour
and has a comfortable 42-hour power reserve. Finally, this finely crafted
mechanism features the distinctive oscillating weight of Clerc movements and
visible through the caseback fitted with twin sapphire apertures.
A laboratory unique in the world
The technical, powerful and supremely refined instruments composing the new
Hydroscaph H1 Chronometer series are designed to meet all the demanding
criteria of the ISO6425 norm governing the diver’s watch label. Like all
Hydroscaph models, they have successfully passed a series of particularly
stringent dedicated tests relating to traction, shocks, visibility, magnetism, water
resistance in deep waters, as well as resistance to seawater and corrosion.
As part of its partnership with Sub Aviator Systems, the Maison Clerc enjoys
access to the prestigious R&D lab of the underwater exploration pioneer. It
thereby benefits from its scientific expertise that notably contributes to the
development and fine-tuning of ever more advanced technical solutions capable
of withstanding the extreme conditions prevailing at great depths. The
collaboration also enables it to have tests performed in conditions identical to
those used for the Sub Aviator Systems submersibles and other high-tech
equipment, and thereby to tests the resistance and performance of diver’s
watches in real-life situations.
The aesthetically balanced lines and perfect execution of the Hydroscaph H1
Chronometer models are matched by a vulcanised rubber or alligator-finish
rubber strap, fitted with a folding clasp with safety pushers. Seamlessly
integrated into the case, it smoothly extends the distinctive mobile lugs of the
Hydroscaph collection, designed to ensure an optimal fit on the wrist, even over
a diving suit.
