Adult 4 on 4 Basketball Non-Officiated - League Rules Effective Nov 28, 2012 This league will have no referees. Its success depends on the sportsmanship and conduct of all players. Coaches and players must police themselves to make this league a safe and enjoyable experience. Metro Parks will provide an on-site gym supervisor who will keep score and time. The gym supervisor has the authority to stop and/or declare a forfeit of any game deemed ‘out of control’. The gym supervisor also has the authority to eject individual players from a game. Ejected players must leave the building immediately, or the game will be forfeited. NO TOLERANCE FOR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR , INTENTIONAL FOULS, OR LANGUAGE!! If a player is ejected once, he must sit out the next scheduled game. If a player is ejected twice in one season, he will automatically be suspended (and may not return) for the rest of the season. Ejected players must leave the gym immediately. Coaches, keep your players in check and keep this recreational game in its proper perspective. Rosters: All players must be 18+ and listed on the team roster to be eligible. Roster limit is 8 players. Rosters will be onsite, and roster protests will be handled on the spot. (stopped clock) Playing an ineligible player will result in a forfeit. Time: The game will consist of two 20 minute halves, running time with a 3 minute half. Clock will stop in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half only, for violations and fouls. (Exception: With a lead of 25+ points, the clock will not be stopped.) Each team will be allowed two 30 second time outs per half. Unused timeouts may not be carried over to the 2nd half. Timeouts may be called from the bench if in possession. Gym Sup/Scorer will keep time, team scores, and possessions. No individual scores or fouls will be kept. Possessions: Home team will receive the ball to begin the 1st half. Alternate possessions on all jump balls thereafter. Fouls: Defensive or offensive players may call fouls or violations. THE FOUL CALL MUST COME FROM THE FLOOR BY THE PLAYER FOULED ONLY. If there is disagreement, see “Prove it Rule” below. Otherwise, the fouled team gets possession. (no free throws until last minute of game) If a shooter is fouled on a shot or drive to the hoop and the shot is made, the basket will count and play will continue on. Intentional fouls will be called by the Gym Sup. Penalty is ejection, regardless of severity of the foul. FOULS MUST BE CALLED LOUDLY ENOUGH FOR THE SCOREKEEPER TO HEAR IN THE LAST 2 MINUTES TO STOP THE CLOCK. Prove It Rule: IF there is disagreement on a foul call, the player who called the foul must shoot from the top of the circle. (‘Prove it’) If made, his team gains possession (or free throws in the last minute of play. See below) If he misses, the opponent gains possession. No points will go on the board for “prove it” shots. Remember…the clock is running! (If the gym supervisor must step into a disagreement, her/his word is final and the time taken to settle the argument will not be put back on the clock). Free Throws: No free throws will be taken except in the last minute of play. In the last minute of play all fouls called will result in free throws except when a shot is made. The fouled player, (after a made ‘prove it’ shot, if necessary) will shoot a 1&1 for non-shooting fouls or 2 (or 3) for missed shooting fouls. If a shooter is fouled on a shot or drive to the hoop and the shot is made, the basket will count and play will continue on. Out of Bounds / Check-in: In the back court following all violations, made baskets, or fouls, the ball must be brought in from out of bounds. In the front court, the ball may be checked. This may not be used to as a delay tactic to rest or run time off the clock. Gym supervisor may stop clock in this situation and give a delay warning. Ball should be checked-in within 10 seconds of foul or violation. When checked the clock starts on the 1st pass, dribble or defensive touch. Overtime / Sudden Death: If the game ends in a tie, sudden death overtime will be played. The first team to score wins. First possession will be given to the home team. The three point shot will be allowed on courts with appropriate markings. Gym Supervisor will have final call if it is a two or a three pointer. No dunking is allowed before, during, or after the game. Penalty = Tech - 2 points & possession. Dunking Tech = 2 points / Second dunking tech in same game = 2 points, plus player ejection / Third dunking tech in same game = team forfeit. All other rules or situations will follow Federation High School Rules. Gym supervisor’s decision on rules is final. The idea behind this league is to provide recreational basketball in a little less “serious or competitive” environment and to keep the price down. Play hard, play to win, but keep the game in perspective. Having no officials requires self control and positive sportsmanship. For this league to succeed, players must police themselves and teammates. In case of inclement weather contact the MPT Office to check on the status of the games.
