To understand that neuromuscular training (NMT) programs can decrease ACL injuries in youth soccer players 2. To encourage local clubs, coaches, athletes and health professionals to use NMT programs 3. To be aware of the FIFA 11+ website which includes a NMT program Neuromuscular training programs • Definitions: A method used to "teach" your body better habits for knee stability. By training your knee to move in a certain way, especially when jumping, landing, and pivoting, you can maintain a more stable position of the knee joint. • Recommendations # 1) All Canadian youth soccer players should engage in exercise programs that incorporate neuromuscular, proprioceptive, agility, and strength training in their routine practice and warm-ups (Level A) James and Cathy Recommendations # 2) These NMT programs should begin by the early teenage years (Level A) Recommendations # 3) In training, the coaches and trainers should give effective feedback on the performance of the drills, and players should learn from watching each other perform tasks Recommendations # 4) National and Provincial soccer governing bodies should develop age-specific ACL injury prevention programs and monitor these programs for effectiveness based on the latest available evidence (Level B) Recommendations # 5) Soccer teams should collaborate with a qualified health or PE professional in the institution of an ACL injury prevention program for the team’s training session (Level A) Recommendations # 6) Professional organizations of sport medicine physicians and all therapy professionals can lead by encouraging members to provide educational sessions and materials to soccer teams (Level C) Recommendations # 7) Ongoing research to refine these programs according to the current evidence-based best practices is essential (Level B) Recommendations # 8) Ongoing understanding, development, and refinement of implementation strategies is needed to improve compliance and uptake of the prevention programs (Level A) Thank you!
