Dear Parent/Carer,
Thank you all for your support to the school. The pupils have had an excellent year in terms of attendance,
progress and achievements and to close the year almost 200 children received awards at the recent
Presentation Afternoon in recognition of their character for learning, hard work and positive attitude. It has also
been very rewarding to receive positive feedback from members of the public and staff at a wide range of
venues that we have visited over the year which demonstrates that the children are a credit to you and the
school.

Parent Governor Vacancy
Thank you to the eight parents who expressed an interest in becoming a Parent Governor and the three who
put themselves forward for election. I am delighted to inform you that Samantha Powell has been successful
and has been appointed as our new Parent Governor. Good luck Samantha in your new role and thank you to
all those who submitted a ballot form.
Flexible Learning – Summer 2014
As you know, we are strongly encouraging children to develop their independent learning skills in order to
‘enjoy and achieve’. Please find enclosed a booklet with recommended Flexible Learning ideas / activities for
your child to undertake over the summer break. The booklet includes a recommended reading list, ideas for
places to visit, suggested websites to explore, summer schools to be involved in and many more. Please
encourage your child to become involved in as many activities as possible. At the end of the break, please can
your child then complete the Flexible Learning log and return the sheet to your child’s coach in September.
What’s On Guide
The latest ‘What’s On Guide’ has been handed to your child during Coaching today. If you are interested in
booking a place on any of the activities, please contact Liz Merriman on 0113 3930765. Places are available
on a first come first served basis. Copies are also available in Reception.
Carr Manor Diaries
All pupils have been asked by their coach if they would like a Carr Manor diary to help when planning for key
events and noting key dates/information. If your child has chosen to have a diary, they will be given this when
they return in September.
School Uniform
School uniform will be available to buy from the Secondary Phase reception office in school from 18th-29th
August. School blazers, which are optional for all year groups, are now available for pupils to order priced at
£20.
Results Day – 21st August
All GCSE results will be available on Thursday 21st August from 10am onwards for the exiting Year 11 pupils
and from 11am onwards for our new Year 11 pupils. On the morning, there will be an opportunity to discuss
results with school staff and Careers Advisors.

Employment Information Fair - 22nd August
On Friday 22nd August (10.00am – 1pm) we are holding an Employment Information Fair. This is an interactive
community event for current and past pupils. During the event, pupils will receive help and advice on writing
their own CV.

Key Dates
Please note the following key dates:
 Monday 1st September 2014 – only Year 7 and Year 12 pupils to be in school for 10.20am
 Tuesday 2nd September 2014 – all pupils to be in school for 8.20am
Please note, we are unable to authorise requests for holidays during term time and we are therefore expecting
all pupils to return as indicated above.
