WINDTHORST BASKETBALL
7th Grade Spartanette Basketball
The Windthorst 7th grade Spartanettes have started out the 2009-2010
basketball season in impressive fashion and stand with a 3-1 record. Results of the
games were as follows:
November 19 – Windthorst defeated Electra 25-15
Rebeca Herrera – 2 pts, Whitney Simmons – 6 pts, Ashley Latham – 4 pts,
Rachel Conrady – 5 pts, Bailey Morath – 2 pts, Haven Canada – 6 pts
November 23 – Windthorst defeated Archer City 31-21

7th Grade Spartans Start Basketball Season with a 3-1 Record
The Spartans started off their season with a huge win playing tremendous defense that held Electra
to 2 points. The final score was 34-2. Defensive leaders were Hayden Berend and Blake McCann.
Offensive leaders were Zack George with 10 points, Austin Blagg 6 and Chandler King 6.Their next game
was against rival Archer City. The Spartans started off slow in that game and got down by 6 points after the
first quarter. The final score was 25-30 and the Spartans first loss of the season. Defensive standouts this
game were Johnathon Chambers and Avery Blagg. Offensive standout was Zack George scoring half of the
Spartan points with 13. On November 30th the Spartans played the Petrolia Pirates looking for revenge
coming off their last loss and were able to get the win beating the Pirates 43-8. The Spartans dominated
from the tip-off and never slowed down in this one coming away with their 2 nd win of the season. Chandler
King was the offensive leader with 18 points and the Defensive leaders were Cody Scheffe and Taylor
Hoffman each having several steals. On December 7th The Spartans played Electra in a rematch game from
the first of the year. They matched their defensive play against the Tigers again allowing them only 2
points. Every Spartan got in on the scoring and played a great game. The Spartans 3-1 are looking forward
to Dec. 14th for a rematch game against Archer City as they look to redeem themselves for the one blemish
on their record.

Freshman Trojans Split Games with Petrolia Pirates
The 9th Grade boys started their season off with a decisive win over the Pirates cruising to a 45-13
victory. Derek Mankins led the scoring for the Trojans with 16 points; he was followed by Kellen Green
with 7 and Brendon Schreiber with 6. Defensive standouts were Adam Hoff and Carter Crain. On
November 30th the Pirates came back into town for a rematch. This time they came out on top with a final
score of 16-18. This was a close battle throughout the entire came as both teams were playing great
defense. Brendon Schreiber led the scoring for the Trojans with 9 points followed by Dylan Chambers with
3. Several players contributed in the comeback 4th quarter as the Trojans got key buckets from Pierce
Meurer and Carter Crain. The Trojans were led defensively by Austin Blagg, Dusty Talley, and Mathew
Pittman. The Freshman boy’s next game will be here on the 12 th of December as hosts of the Windthorst
JV/Freshman Tournament.
JV Trojans Undefeated!
The JV team started off the year with a very close game against Henrietta. The Trojans were able
to pull out a come from behind win late in the 4 th quarter to win 34-33. Down by 4 heading into the last
quarter the Trojans had key points from Adam Hoff and Skylar Veitenheimer. The Leading scorer was
Lucas Veitenheimer with 11 followed by Kellen Green with 6. Defensive standouts were Derek Mankins
and Macaully Bowen. On Dec. 8th The Trojans dominated the Newcastle Bobcats with a score of 51-26.
Leading scorer was Lucas Veitenheimer with 12 points, followed by Kellen Green with 8 and Derek
Mankins with 7. The JV boy’s next game will be here on the 12 th of December as hosts of the Windthorst
JV/Freshman Tournament.
Varsity Trojans
The Windthorst Trojans started off the season this year with a lose against the Electra Tigers on
November 24th, at Electra with a score of 76-52. Leading scorers for the Trojans were Jacob Johnson with
12 points and Mason Vieth and Dylan Stallcup with 10 points apiece. The Trojan’s next game was on
December 1st with a win against the Henrietta Bearcats. The leading scorers of this game were Mason Vieth
with 18, Dylan Stallcup with 12, and Matthew Wolf with 11 points. The ending score was 66-26. On
December 3rd, the Trojans entered the Fort Worth Christian tournament. The first game the Trojans played
Chant and came out with a 62-58 victory. Top scorers were Mason Vieth with 13 points and Jacob Johnson
with 12 points. The following day, the Trojans played the Home Schooled Athletic Association and lost 4563. Point leaders were Dylan Stallcup and Matthew Wolf with 10 points each. And on Saturday the Trojans
lost to Grapevine Faith with a score of 44-74. Dylan Stallcup lead the scoring in this game scoring 22
points. On December 8th, the Trojans held a close battle with the Newcastle Bobcats and came out with a
win with a score of 59-52. Key scorers for this game were Dylan Stallcup with 21, Jacob Johnson with 15,
and Mason Vieth with 13 points. The Trojans were led defensively by Raul Andablo, Regan Veitenheimer,
Tyler Berardi, and Charles Wolf. The first home games for the Trojan’s will be in the Windthorst
Tournament December 28th through the 30th. The Trojan’s record stands at 3-3.
Spartan Basketball
The Spartan B team is 2-0 after games with Archer City and Petrolia. The team made of both 7th and 8th
graders opened their season on November 23 with a 14-6 win over AC and on November 30 had a 10-6 win
over the Pirates. The defense held both team scoreless in the first half on the way to victory. Taylor
Hoffman and Blake Newby led the way against Archer City with 6 and 4 points respectfully. Jacob
Meurer led the scoring against Petrolia with 4 points.
The 8th grade team has opened the season without a victory in 4 games. Falling to Electra on November 19
in the opener 26-34. Brady Berend led the team with 14 points and Heath Julian led the team with 8
rebounds. Back on the home court for the 2 nd game, the Blue Crew fell to Archer City on November 23 by
the score of 22-27. Hayden Hoffman and Owen Veitenheimer led the team in scoring with 7 & 6 points.
Dustin Schreiber led the defense and Heath Julian was again the leading rebounder with 6. On November
30, the Spartans fell to Petrolia by the score of 22-31. Hoffman and Veitenheimer each had 7 points and
Garrett Steinberger added 6. The team tried to avenge their loss to Electra on December 7, but came up on
the short side of a 18-20 score. Missed layups proved to be the difference in the game. Hoffman again led
the scoring with 10 points. Jacob Meurer led the defense and Kaleb Gresham was the leading rebounder
with 7.
The Spartans travel to Archer City on Monday the 14 looking for their first win.

Windthorst ISD is now accepting nominations of students for entrance into the Advanced Academics
(G/T) Program. Nominations may be completed by teachers/staff, parents/guardians, community members,
peers, or by self-nomination. Forms may be obtained from the school principal and should be completed
and returned by January 15, 2010. The Gifted and Talented Program selects students who show the
potential for performing at high levels of achievement, and who require more challenging learning
experiences and can tackle more difficult tasks.

4-H News
The Windthorst 4-H club be hosting their annual Christmas caroling night this Sunday, December13th .
It will be an evening of song and spreading Christmas cheer to the Sr. citizens in town. All 4-H members
are to meet at St. Mary's Parish hall at 6pm to board the caravan trailers. Following the Christmas
caroling everyone will meet back at the hall for cookies and hot cocoa. All carolers are reminded to
bring a flashlight and dress warm for the evening.
Also the 4-H club has helped sponsor and dress the sheppard figure in the life-size display located on the
hill on HWY 281 North. Be sure to take notice and look as you drive by to and from Wichita Falls!
