JAVIER SANCHEZ MARQUIEGUI Javier holds a degree in law from the Pompeu Fabra University (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) in Barcelona and has continued with post‐graduate studies at the University of Geneva (Université de Genève). He has been a member of the Bar Association of Barcelona since 1999. After participating in a variety of articling programs with the United Nations Organization (Geneva) and with the Catalonian Government (in the Departments of Justice and the President), he initiated his professional career at the law firm of Cuatrecasas Abogados in Brussels, subsequently going on to become a member of the Legal Advisory Service of Latinia. In 2001 he joined KPMG as Director of the area of Intellectual and Industrial Property and New Technologies at the Barcelona office. He joined Rodés & Sala in 2005 as Director of the Intellectual and Industrial Property and New Technologies department, offering advice to Spanish and foreign companies in these areas. In July 2009 he joined the law firm of Gómez‐Acebo & Pombo. He has been an Associate Professor at the Commercial Law Department of the International University of Catalonia (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya) since 2002. He is a regular speaker at different forums and has also collaborated with a wide range of prestigious institutions (the Autonomous University of Barcelona, IE Business School, ESADE Law and Business School, Internet Global Congress, the Centre for Business Investigation and Development at the Abat Oliba University, the CEF Centre for Financial Studies, A3 Software, ESADE, ISDE, among others). He is a regular contributor to economic publications and is co‐author of two books on international commerce and trademark law.
