COVENTRY (BRITISH) – 14th June 2017 – 26 Cars 11 Car W&Y race kicked off the evening, with Shane H57 taking his second successive W&Y Win. Shane again won a heat, Macca #3 drove a cool race to take a heat, Simon #285 powered round to take heat 3, On form Phil #17 took heat 5, with Bathyboy #81 taking a surprise win in heat 6. That surprise turned to shock as Bathy drove away from the impressive field to take the final and become the 2017 British Champion. Congratulations! BELLE VUE NEW (WCQR) – 21st June 2017 – 20 Cars Newcomer Guinchy #183 stormed to a 10 car W&Y race win and continued the excellent form by winning the opening 3 heats! Simon #285 won the heat that Guinchy wasn’t in. The 20 car final included 12 star drivers which was a lively affair, incident all over the track throughout the race. Counter #255 was the lucky survivor, taking the final in style which also saw three whites in the top 10! Martin #400 made light work of the GN. Josh #39, Ginger #482 and Guinchy #183 made their UKStox debuts. NEWTONGRANGE (SCOTTISH) – 28th June 2017 – 23 Cars An action packed W&Y’s saw the 11 cars challenge each other as well as the track. Phil #17 took the other heat to cap his great month from blue. Josh #39 survived the 23 car final to take the Scottish Title from Ant #80 and Chevy #316. MAN OF THE MEETING F1 UK OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 COVENTRY – 14th JUNE 2017 – 27 Cars Seven heats with each driver appearing four times determined the 2017 British Championship grid. The 24 highest points scorers + two non point scorers lined up in points order. Phil #17 took the honour of being on pole, after 4 strong heats. Kinton #213 and Shane #H57 were in the top 11 despite being whites, but they were surrounded by Reds and Superstars. Top yellow was Chris #21 on the 8th row, as Macca #3 didn’t grid on the 7th row. Towards the rear of the grid were the red of Superfinn #55 and Superstars Ant #80 & Mav #85 just behind. 21 laps to determine the 2017 British Champion commenced after the customary “Gentlemen – Start Your Engines!!” -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The 26 cars rolled around the raceway until the “GO” was given. For the cars towards the rear of the grid this was in turn 2 which caught a few out on the inside, as they powered off straight onto the kerbs, losing them control. Daveyboy #1 missed the “GO” and was buffeted from all sides eventually spinning out into turn 3 fence. As this was happening, Chris #21 was caught on the inner kerb, not able to get off or slow enough before flying across the bend and collecting Owen #66 and Mark #147, putting all three onto the dog track. Bathy #81 pushed Martin #400 wide and slipped through. As Martin pulled it round, Simon #285 went on his inside and as they exited the bend Chevy #316 powered out on their inside. He forced Simon across into Martin who went up the armco. Chevy too slammed into the armco and the ricochet sent him across the track and onto the inner kerbs. They threw him off to the turn 1 fence and out of contention. Martin was still trying to get all four wheels back on the ground and thanks to Ironmac #288 he did. Bathy was now well clear of Phil in 2nd. Simon passed Phil, and was looking forward to the chase to Bathy when Phil put in a return hit, delaying them both, putting them back into the chasing pack. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Next few laps Mav was able to catch and pass Martin, Simon & Phil to take 2nd, with Counter #255 following behind. Drivers were circulating trying to gain places allowing Chevy & Davey to catch the leading pack. However Chevy’s race came to an end after battling with Ant #80, when he hit an almost stationary car and spun out once again. Counter put in a few quick laps and passed Mav, but Mav wasn’t going to give in and returned with a hit that put Counter back to race with Ironmac. Martin and Simon took the opportunity to pass Mav, this time without reply. Up front Bathy was keeping it clean and the lead was being maintained. Martin tracked Simon right to the last bend, putting a telling hit to take 2nd. Mav was able to stay in front of a fast moving Davey, with Ant, Iron, Counter and Phil still sorting out the remaining places. However up front Bathy had an untroubled race and crossed the line to become the 2017 BRITISH CHAMPION 2017 BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP GRID RESULT : 1st 81, 2nd 400, 3rd 285, 4th to 10th - 85, 1, 80, 288, 255, 17, 192 F1 UK OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 COVENTRY – 14th JUNE 2017 – 26 Cars HOW WAS IT FOR THE DRIVERS? MAX #160 BATHYBOY #81 – 2017 BRITISH CHAMPION MACCA#3 Heat 1 got drilled into the fence, rejoined and finished 11th Heat 2 got drilled into the fence, rejoined and finished 11th again. Heat 3 not so good but steady away finished 13th. Heat 4 no banger racer in this one feeling good, got my best result 7th that’s made my meeting, well happy, made it onto the grid in my first season . Onto the British I was gridded behind Mav, okay just follow Mav I say to myself and I should get a decent position. Well first lap I’m behind Mav and we both hit a stranded Davey, game over for me, however I managed to keep going all be it in last place. the rest of the race was very enjoyable with myself Ash 492 and Tom 293 trading places all fair and good fun. to sum up All good fun 10/10 Great night, chuffed to bits to win a final and roof in F1 after years of trying. Didn't fancy outside 2 when I was called up, but got a good start, took the lead and it all fell in to place. Didn't really see anyone else for the first 10 laps or so. Thanks to the back markers that I came across, all moved over or took each other out ahead of me. Would have been straightforward if I wasn't so excited / terrified I was going to mess it up. British was eventful happy with my win in heat 2 but internet beat me and turned itself off bit off the pace but happy overall with performance things can only get better DAVEYBOY #1 The heats were what I expected, not much going on during them until the last heat having a good battle with Chevy before planting him in to get away! The British race itself was a major let down due to myself as didn’t see the green flag and just got pushed about then next thing I know I'm facing the wrong way. Once I got going again I just went for it, avoiding all the crashes and some how ended up 5th which I was pleased with due to the start. RIC O’SHAY #145 CHRIS#21 Spent a lot of time on a setup trying to get it on pace eventually I managed it. Was going well in all heats until I hit a stranded car and ended my race for the top 10 places. Tried to get going again only to be taken out again , in the final I made good places only to be caught out by a car in the middle of the track which ended any hope for me frustrating but enjoyed the whole meeting well done bath great drive. With a lack of track time due to personal reason I was always up against it, new game pad and about 30 others was going to be hard for me to win it. 2 ok heats 1 really bad heat and a 4th place put me mid way on the grid. The final well the rolling lap went well and then it went down hill very fast. PJ #250 The heats were hard with a few take outs in the first two. Got better in heat 4, led but lost out. Went well in heat 6 finished top 5, hard to keep top lads behind. British, near the back looking to get a good start, was up in the top half but after a mistake and a good fencing, I park up and watch the race. Bad start, good mid, crap end! FINN #55 Sat in bar with blown engine IRONMAC #288 British meeting was far better than I expected got a 2nd 4th and 5th outside row for final never the best got poor start forced out wide then duel with 255 finished 7th so pleased overall and a great meeting JOHNC#53 I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from start to finish. The rising excitement and expectations and practice leading up to the night and especially the banter between racers. Nice to be able to get somewhere near to be able to race along with the others (some of the time) gives me more enthusiasm to try and crack on with the improvements in handling and speed. And a new champ. Really pleased for Bathyboy. All in all cant wait for next time. And not forgetting Chevy and his team for the really well run evening. Congratulations to all involved. MARK #147 Heats were disappointing for me, Into orbit and over the fence in the British 1st bend, Game over. ANT #80 Buried by Mav in Heat 1. Quite steady with some good battles next 3 heats. Started 19th in final. Finished 6th with a decent battle with Chevy. The End ! F1 UK OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 COVENTRY – 14th JUNE 2017 – 26 Cars HOW WAS IT FOR THE DRIVERS? (Part 2) TOM #293 MAV #85 JB #2 This being my first big meeting I wanted to get good results but I was more concerned with consistency so I raced steady. Heat format was brilliant made it so everyone had a fair chance. The racing was very clean and fair not what I expected .Maybe prior meetings people were just putting there stamp on to say mess with me and this is what I can do . If I had any gripes it's only with myself could have just gone that bit faster . Onto the big race I duly lined up at the back of the grid looking ahead I just thought don't do anything daft just go for decent laps I knew I wasn't going to win but I knew I could go the distance. The race itself from my point was to keep out the way of faster cars and race my own race . That race line is a narrow band when everyone wants to be on it. In the closing stages of the race I found myself battling with Ashley 492. We had a great few laps with a dash for the line with Ash just pipping me for the place ..race over and yes I'm pleased with myself for just racing my own race and not wrecking it for others . Don't get me wrong this is Stock Car Racing and we all know what to do when that times comes !!!.....One last thing can I just say thank you to all involved in running the meeting absolutely brilliant job and well done to all racers... I didn’t expect anything from the heats with everyone being in front of me. Worked on a setup, but this got worse as the meeting went on and my results showed. Went back to basics for the British, nothing to loose and just drove. I couldn’t believe I hit 2nd and I didn’t want to loose it, hoping Bathy would make a mistake. Disappointed to end up 4th after being so close again but thought the meeting was a great success – Well Done all involved and Well Done Bathy! "Dunno why but always seem to struggle for pace at Cov, so going from Blue knew was gonna struggle, heats were about what I expected, highlight being stealing a 3rd out the last bend from Iron & Counter. Come the final itself got drew mid pack on the outside so didnt expect much, got through the first bend melee relatively unscathed only to overdo it out the corner and drift the back corner into the fence and lose a lot of tume. Towards the end of the race was having a gd battle with Kendo & Chevy, trying hard to grab 10th and, 2 to go put a hard hit on Chevy, and chase kendo hard, coming out of turn 4 to start last lap and Kendo is within reach when Bathy slipped up the inside and crossed the line keeping me 11th, gutting end to a relatively poor night" ASHLEY #492 SIMON #285 The night was a disaster just couldn’t get going was close to loading car up but still started Heat 1, Lap 1 to the final lap of the British with a smile! . Heats were tough going, but happy to have won one. British I wanted to win and my one mistake was allowing Phil to get in a hit, when I broke through into 2nd. I felt I could’ve caught Bathy had that not happened. Congratulations Bathy! . KINTON #213 The British was amazing my first championship and to qualify on the inside on the 2nd row it was amazing. A great run meeting by the admin. The heats was challenging but amazing. MARTIN #400 It was the best online meeting I’ve raced in. Loved every minute of it ... British race didn’t go my way but had a superb race with Simon right up to the last bend and I’m very happy for Bathy! Top drives from Mav and Ant to be well placed in the final. CHEVY #316 Heats were ok final was a mistake on my half and it cost me F1 UK OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 COVENTRY – 14th JUNE 2017 – 26 Cars HOW WAS IT FOR THE DRIVERS? (Part 3) COZY #522 COUNTER #255 My 1st Major Chanpionship race - started row 9 I think - spent hours trying to get a good quick setting but that all goes out the window when the flag drops! I gave a few big hits as the norm but had a decent race all in all - could have gone better if I’d have got into my rhythm but pleased to have been part of this race, room for improvement I know- can't wait for the Scottish Championship in a few weeks ! Firstly, many congratulations to Bathyboy for a fine and deserved win in the British meaning he needs to do more meetings to show off the the black and white roof. I had no expectations of doing well as I'm still struggling from red, not really fast enough in the F1s yet, so I was focused on just trying to finish my races, so was happy with scoring points in each of my heats from red. The average finishes gave me a start in the middle of the pack around 11th and I was very surprised to find myself in 3rd within a few laps. I was chasing down Mav who was around 2 - 3 secs ahead and I managed to close him down within a few laps, gave a gentle tap to pass and was now in a surprising 2nd place. By this time Bathy was way ahead, I couldn't even see him, so tried to settle for a good race for a podium place. The line I had around Coventry meant keeping tight which unfortunately made me a sitting duck for dive-bombs and Mav decided to take this approach rather than race for the position leaving me in the fence. By the time I extracted myself out of the fence I was now way down the field, red mist in my eyes and the first car I came across was Ironmac and I gave him quite a big hit for position. Unfortunately he took umbridge at the force of the hit and right turned me into the fence on the next straight, sending me further down the field. I finished the race in 8th which is where I had hoped to finish before the meeting started, so reasonably happy, although I am looking forward to the next Championship race to repay Mav for not trying to race for position! PHIL #17 OWEN #66 I went into meeting with little expectations but stayed out of trouble in the heats where luck seemed to be on my side, come final time I was surprised to be on pole. When the race got going I lost the line a bit and got caught up with a lot cars and that slowed my progress a bit. My 9th place finish was a bit disappointing but I enjoyed the nights racing. Good in heats, car was good and gained a decent grid position for the British Final . Ended in a turn one pile up but came back to 13th. Really happy with my drive back to 13th. Really enjoyed the meeting despite the crash. KENDO #192 Meeting went well I thought although for some reason I thought I was a blue so, not sorting the game out before Wednesday to see that I was a red roof was a bit of an unwelcome surprise. Coventry is one of those tracks that if you get caught on the outside then it can take a few laps until you can force your way back onto the racing line but in those laps it's common to lose a host of places and loads of time on the leaders. That's kind of how my heats went including one that I was in about 3rd just tootling behind Bathy and got a hefty whack from the blue that I had just passed - by the time i was out of the Armco the s/s train was in full swing so ended in about 8th or 9th. Think I started the Brits outside row 5 (ish) and decided for the nice tootling approach for the 1st bend expecting a shove from behind but it didn't really come but there was a shove in front and found myself in about 4th ish on the exit of the 1st bend for a couple of laps. Came across H57 who's car was just a brick wall when I hit it so struggled to get passed him and when he hit me I went in the fence so a bit annoying but was still good fun - I even traded fair blows with Simon! Massive well done to Bathy SHANE #H57 Was a nice meet, well organised but a little bit late for a dutchy....!!! NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK KINTON #213 & SHANE #H57 * F1 & F2 Newbies * Not very often do you get two new drivers who start later in the season and win straight away! Both have won Heats in F1’s, Kinton has won an F2 final first time out and both are going well in the F1 & F2 Whites & Yellows Series. What are you connections to Stock Car Racing? Driver, Mechanic, Spectator or a friend of a friend. KINTON #213 I love to watch Stock Cars. I went to my first meeting when I was about 6 weeks old and have been going to Coventry ever since then. I race 1/8th Stock Cars as a hobby and I went to Paul Hines wedding reception and let real F1 stock car drivers race my car. SHANE #H57 I am a true Stockcar fan and was a big fan of the Stockcar H57 Theo van Lier. I have spent my whole life in Stockcar Racing. I am now a photographer at Venray. You have taken to the league very well in both formula, How are you finding the league so far Easier than you thought, about right, or its hard but you are coping? KINTON #213 The league is very challenging!!!! Great people race and Great people run the meeting. SHANE #H57 I think it’s a great league! It is easier from white but I can’t wait to be a higher grade to get more of the challenge! NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK KINTON #213 & SHANE #H57 * F1 & F2 Newbies * Following on from that you may well be upgraded next month to yellow or even blue; How do you feel about starting from there? KINTON #213 I love a great challenge!!! SHANE #H57 As I said previously, I am looking forward to the next challenge. It is going to be harder. Now that you are known to the rest of the league, what are your aims for the end of the season? KINTON #213 My aim for the end of the season is to get blue and stay blue till the start of next year. Then next year I will be aiming higher SHANE #H57 My goal is to have some fun races. I don’t need a Championship on my name or a lot of points. I do this for fun not to be the best Which driver has caught your eye from either F1 or F2? KINTON #213 Shane is a great racer won many races in the F1s. So we will have to watch him in the future. SHANE #H57 F1 its Daveyboy #1. The fastest one out. He is a very nice guy and a respectful driver and that’s what I’m looking for. F2 UKSTOX JUNE 2017 UKSTOCKCARS F2 Meeting Review. Debut driver Kinton #213 then took over, with a 2nd & 1st in the Heats and a Final 1st. Top point scorer in his debut meeting! Counter continued his good fortune with a heat win and JB #295 showing his upgrade to blue won’t hold him back, winning a heat and the Grand National. BLACKBURN – 15th May 2017 – 14 Cars Only 5 cars contested the W&Y Race with Ironmac #288 being the victor. Heats were split to allow track time, with Adam #836 taking Heat 1, Kendo #912 Heat 2, then Chevy #316 won Heats 3 & 4 then won the meeting Final from Kendo and Adam. Chris #21 tucked in and pushed Kendo wide but not enough to get by. Counter #552 and Jarry #164 dropped in behind followed by Mark #401. Chris tried again next bend and this time was through, as was Mark on Counter and Jarry. Several car lengths behind was defending champ Davey #1 who had passed the mid pack to start the chase of the leaders. Chris lead into turn 1, lap 2. Kendo placed a hit on Chris, just as Mark placed a bigger one on Kendo, forcing Chris up the fence and Kendo very wide. Mark now led. Jarry tried for the lead and failed, next bend Counter tried for the lead and failed. Mark survived. This all helped Davey who was now up with the lead quartet. Next was Simon #285 who had broken away from the mid pack. Drivers had now found their rhythm and places were static as the mid pack was beginning to spread out. Simon passed Jarry but was immediately removed from the race due to a retaliation hit from Jarry. The ensuing crash caused several drivers problems resulting in drivers loosing gained places in the early laps. Davey pushed past Counter at the same time Kendo re-took the lead. Cozy #522 delayed Davey badly by trapping him on the outside, allowing the front two to pull away. Next bend Cozy was across the track, putting a halt to Chris’ resurgence. The resulting crash left Kinton #213 facing the fence on the exit of turn 2. Mark was quick to spot and pushed Kendo wide meaning Kendo’s recovery line would head straight for Kinton. Kendo swerved, clipped Kinton but was then boxed in by backmarkers and Davey took 2nd. Bathy #81 had worked his way back up the leader board to contest 4th with Counter. Bathy was soon past until Ric #145 & Cozy #522 colluded together to slow Bathy enough for Adam #836 to pass. Bathy regained the place leaving Adam & Counter to fight over 5th. Up front Mark was clear to claim the British Title and it took a last bend hit from Kendo to take 2nd from Davey. I was sitting on the grid quite determined to win the title after losing my F1 Scottish Title on the Wednesday night, I was fairly hopeful that I would be able to jump a few people ahead of me at the start of the British and get into the top 3 in the first few laps and I done exactly that by getting myself into the lead of the race with Kendo following closely behind, A couple of laps later and Kendo did a good shot on me and got past me, I returned the shot a couple of corners later but this time there was a stranded car on the exit of the turn and Kendo hit it, This gave me a 1.5s lead, So I just kept a lookout of what was in front of me rather than in my mirrors and came home to take the win with no real challenge from behind in the 2nd half of the race. I have been making huge strides with walking and biking but now I have set my-self a bigger challenge of biking from the clock tower in Leicester to the clock tower in Skegness........a total of 84 miles!!!! Whilst this is a huge challenge for me, I am also keen on raising much needed funds for the amazing local charity, Loros. I managed to raise a total £1,055 with is a fantastic amount. So thanks all that have taken the time to sponsor me. Thanks! The ride itself took me 5.5 Hours. FINN 55.
