How to be a Team Captain

TEAM CAPTAINS MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Thank you for becoming a Team Captain! You’ve joined an elite group
of individuals - not only have you accepted the Shatterproof Challenge,
but you have elected yourself to inspire and motivate your team.
Our goal is to make your experience as a Team Captain as easy and
enjoyable as possible. Thank you for your time, passion, energy and
devotion as we all work together to create a Shatterproof America.
A TEAM CAPTAIN IS A...
Leader: Being a team captain means knowing when to
take the lead and when to delegate tasks to your team
members. Stay organized and committed to your team’s
fundraising goals as you provide the tools and support
to reach them. If you are the team captain of a Corporate
Team, this may also mean enlisting senior level support
at your company.
Recruiter: As a team captain, one of your most
important responsibilities is to recruit new team
members. Ask friends, family members and coworkers
whom you know you can count on. It’s important that
team members have the time to be active participants
and are enthusiastic about getting involved. Team
members can help with recruiting, too. Remember that
together your network is larger.
Goal Setter: You’ll take the reins on setting your team’s
fundraising goal. An ambitious yet attainable goal will
help motivate your team members to raise funds for
Shatterproof. Don’t forget that you can always adjust
your team’s fundraising goal when it’s met to keep the
momentum going.
Cheerleader: It’s important to take every opportunity to
celebrate your team’s accomplishments. An easy way to
communicate with your team is by creating a Facebook
group, or starting an email thread. Receiving a
donation, reaching a fundraising milestone, registering
a new team member and making a personal donation
are all causes for celebration! Even the smallest
gestures won’t go unnoticed.
SIMPLE STEPS TO ONLINE SUCCESS
1
Personalize your team page:
Your team page is the
introduction to Shatterproof
for potential team members and
sponsors. Make it personal and
update the page as your team gets
closer to your fundraising goal.
Use Your Participant
Center: Import your email
contacts into your Participant
Center so that you can easily send
messages to your network. Our
sample emails include a link to
your team page, which makes it
easy for people to join your team or
make an online donation.
2
Track Your Progress: Our
online tools make it easy to
track your team members’
fundraising. Take note of which
team members deserve a pat on
the back and which may need some
extra encouragement.
