Miss Kristy’s Chronicles Week of December 3, 2012 www.creativekidspreschoolnmore.com YOUR WEEKLY FAVORITE NEWSPAPER Since 2012 Creative AND Sense-ible! I am proud to say that our kindness chain is growing. As of Thursday afternoon, we have collected 92 chains of kindness. Kindness is spreading like wildfire and kids are eager to let us know when their friends are being kind. We have been studying our 5 senses this week indepth. Each day we have a special letter of the day and a sense of the day. For Monday, our focus was on SIGHT. We built towers blindfolded, played I spy, and sorted buttons by color and shape. On Tuesday, we challenged our HEARING with listening games, sound matching games, and the new class favorite...books on tape. (I can’t tell you how many times the kids asked what that „tape” was!) On Wedesday we experienced our sense of SMELL in many ways. We drew with scented soaps at the art center, we wrote our names with cinnamon sticks and played smell matching games. Thursday was all about our sense of TOUCH. We sorted smooth and rough textures on ordinary objects, played with CLOUD DOUGH which Miss Nicole made in our sensory table, and felt and guessed how many jingle bells were hiding in our stockings! Perhaps the highlight for the kids—snack was extra fun. We sampled the textures of applesauce, graham crackers and... PopRocks! Friday brings on the adventure of TASTE as we sort foods by categories like sweet, salty, and sour. 5 Senses Song (sung to:Bingo) I use 5 senses every day To help me learn and play. See hear smell touch taste See hear smell touch taste See hear smell touch taste We use them everyday. Afternoon Adventurers! This week the afternoon crew continued their learning adventure with extra practice in phonics and writing. We found out how much fun it is to practice writing and hearing letters and then read stories while writing our letter of the day. We counted how many we could find. The kids loved it. We played a STOP/GO game on Monday for eyesight and number recognition practice, we danced and moved to music on Tuesday. Music class was fun on Wednesday as we learned Jingle Bells and how to play piano or forte. Miss Nicole taught the kids about Dutch artist Piet Mondrian in Thursday’s art class and the kids made AMAZING artwork. We are looking forward to graphing and sorting skittles on Friday as well. It is great to have such a talented crew of kids to challenge. Question: What hug SOUND like? Answer: Give a few today and find out! Upcoming events: Dec. 20, 10:30 am Holiday Party - all welcome. Special Thanks to: Samantha’s family for sending in snacks. Luke’s family for sending in craft supplies and sharing his book with us. All families that placed a Scholastic order. Because of your purchases, we are able to get more books for our school! This week we have been learning with our bodies each day. As a way to learn both the writing and the sounds of letters, we are walking and moving to the letters. Teachers model the writing of the letters and we lay out balance beams and blocks in our circle in the shapes of each letter. We listen to songs featuring the sounds of the letter and walk our way through each one! The kids LOVE the activity and are asking for opportunities to both write and move to the letters.
