To all parents… Thank you for your
support and participation during our
two days of student-led activity based
conferences. It was so pleasing to see
the children happily demonstrating
each activity and us all setting
meaningful goals together. This gives
such a good focus to the next Quarter
of learning, and until we will meet in
the Spring to see how we have achieved
these goals and to set new goals for the
remainder of the year.
Thanks also to the parents whose help
made our Halloween party such a fun
afternoon! Look for more photos on the
next page. The schedule for the month
is also on the last page again, and of
course includes our Thanksgiving break
this month – so I would like to wish all
families a “Happy Thanksgiving.”

I hope you found it informative hearing
your child talk to you about Writers’
Workshop on conference day. Everyone is
working enthusiastically and showing great
development in writing skills. Being able to
almost always choose what they write
about is one of the aspects that is very
motivating.
In Math we will soon have completed Unit
3 and this month will begin working in Unit
4 which concentrates on addition and
subtraction through exploring different
types of number stories, estimating costs,
more strategies and partial sums addition,
with some measurement learning
happening also.
In Science the children will be enjoying
learning more about Solids and Liquids as
we carry out a variety of experiments to
learn about the special properties of solids
and liquids that separate them as two
states of matter.
The routines of our Spelling program are
beginning to become established now as
the children learn to independently make
their new spelling lists. It is really helpful if
we allow the children to make some
mistakes as they write, so it can be easily
seen which words they are needing to
concentrate on learning to spell if they are
at an appropriate level for them. Thank you
for helping with this.
