Event Safety Information for Team Captains

Event Safety Information for Team Captains
Hello and welcome to the Relay for Life Yate 2014
We hope you have a fantastic Relay event, and would be grateful if you would share
these few safety issues with your team before the event starts.
Weather
We hope it will be a sunny Relay – please remember to use sunscreen (supplies are available in
the Cancer Awareness Tent) and drink lots of water / fluids to maintain hydration. Take time
out if you are feeling the effects of too much sun and seek medical advice if you are concerned.
If its not sunny and a little wetter than we would wish for, remember hot food and drinks are
available throughout the 24 hours of Relay – please remember to take care when walking across
grassed areas as they may become slippy if there is sustained rain.
Camping and BBQ’s
For those of you camping towards the stage end of the track, please take extra care (especially
at night) as the grass surface is uneven in places – this is the area normally used for shot-put
events so there are a number of indentations in the surface.
Please ensure that BBQ’s are raised from ground and not placed directly on the grass. Please
also ensure that you have a bucket of water within your camping area in case of emergencies.
Please ensure that you clear away any rubbish from your camp before leaving the event on
Sunday – a supply of black bags will be available if you do not have any. If the skip is full, please
do not leave black bags on the ground next to it – you must take them away with you.
Emergency Procedures
Lost Children – the collection point for any lost children will be the stage (Bath Ales lorry).
Please write a contact mobile number and the name of your team on the reverse of the
wristbands (supplied in your packs) for any children in your team. An announcement will be
made via the PA system.
In the event of a major emergency, an announcement will be made via the PA system that will
detail what action needs to be taken.
In the event of the need to evacuate the YOSC site please note the following1. The assembly point is in the main car park
2. Team captains are responsible for ensuring that all their team members are accounted
for and present at the assembly point.
Please approach any of the Relay Organising Committee members (identifiable by grey CRUK
polo shirts) if you have any questions / concerns.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS
