Help International Students To Make Friends With Others

The Problem:
Colby College accepted an
increasing amount of
international students from
range of nationalities in the last
several years. Colby hopes
these international students can
improve campus diversity.
However, many international
students still failed to build
friendship with local students.
Fortunately or unfortunately,
this problem does not only exist
in Colby.
A study in 2012 by Baruch
College professor Elisabeth
Gareis found that 38%
international students don't
have close American Friends
(Fischer)
Proposal solution:
Colby need a new activity, which match new-coming international students and
elder American volunteers. They get together 1 to 1, like brothers or sisters. Elder
American students can help international students to participate in their activities
and enter their society. Also, international students can improve their knowledge
about a foreign counter and enrich their experience.
Results:
International students cannot
fit in American society and
learn American Culture well.
American students cannot
communicate frequently with
international students, which
means that they cannot learn
about foreign cultures and
languages; farther more,
international students cannot
improve Colby’s diversity well.

Colby need help international students to communicate
with home students more so that they can contribute to
Colby’s diversity effectively and fit in US society better—so
Colby can have outstanding international alumnus
Although Colby has done a lot for international students,
there is not an activity that can effectively improve the
relationship between international students and home
students.
The similarity of international students and home students
is that they are both college students. They both like sports,
video-games and parties.
Both international and home students can get benefits from
this activity, so many students will be interested in this new
program.
Getting alone with each other is the best way to improve
friendship. Especially when international students and
American students have so many things in common.
