SUM1 W2 wc24th April 2017 Curriculum Focus Planting Letters and sounds Phase 1 phonics Adults will: Support children to access and play interactive phonics games on the IWB. EXT; Adults will introduce the children to segmenting and blending, modelling this for the children and encouraging children to identify the initial letter sounds in words during story time eg by looking at the words making up the title. Role play –Expressive arts and Design. Jack and the beanstalk Castle (outside) Fire station (outside) Coffee Shop – Café (inside) Adults will: Support and extend children’s role-play; maximise on opportunities for language development and writing. Cooking – Hummus with vegetable crudite Prime Areas Specific Areas Personal, Social and Emotional Literacy To be able to describe main story settings, events and principle characters. To take turns Adults will: support children through all opportunities in their play. Play turn-taking games. Support children in waiting for their turn. Reassure them that they will have a go and ensure that is the case. Praise children for their efforts. Physical Development To aim at a target! Adults will provide a variety of activities in the environment to enable children to develop their ability to aim and hit a target. Activities include; skittles, basket ball, football, bean bags into hoops etc. Communication and Language. To listen and respond accordingly to instructions or requests Adults will: support and encourage children in listening and responding accordingly through all available opportunities during play. Support children at the end of the session in putting resources away. Provide instructions and support children in following them through eg taking a message or item to someone; instructions for the Bee Bots. Acknowledge success and offer praise. Adults will: Discuss with children the characters in books being read, encouraging them to predict outcomes – see role play. Mathematics To count out a given number from a larger group. Adults will: support children in counting out a number of objects from a larger one in all available opportunities through play. Support children in counting out a required number of seeds for planting. Understanding the world To know that seeds and plants need water and sunlight to grow Adults will; Support children in their understanding through opportunities such as planting seeds in the vegetable patch; planting their own sunflower seed to take home; ‘planting’ cress. Talk to children about the needs of seeds and plants for growth. Link to the spring flowers and how they are growing. Expressive arts and design To enjoy joining in with dancing. To tap out a simple repeated rhythm and to explore how sound can be changed. Adults will provide children with lots of opportunities to: experiment with musical instruments; listen to a wide range of music on the CD player; play ‘copy the beat’ at story time - encourage children to make up their own beats.
