FREDONIA-POMFRET SAFETY AND MISBEHAVIOR GUIDELINE Misbehavior includes: foul language, name calling, hitting, fighting, playing unfair, not following rules of activity, unauthorized use of telephone, unauthorized use of building and play equipment, damaging property, or any activity that may result in injury of oneself or others or damage to supplies, equipment or property in that play area. The following policy will be enforced should misbehavior occur: 1. Verbal warning to child with parent notification from the Recreation Attendant. 2. Written warning sent home in which parent must sign to acknowledge misbehavior. Child will not be allowed back unsupervised by parent or guardian until form is handed back in. 3. Child must be accompanied by parent, guardian or sitter, 16 years or older when visiting play area. 2 1 9 46 71 It is the aim of this program to provide a regular weekly feature in which parents, as well as children are encouraged to participate. Playground attendants will escort children from five various sites throughout the Village and Town to picturesque Barker Common where they can enjoy a program and lunch accompanied by family members. Age appropriate performances are carefully chosen to present the highest level of enjoyment and cultural experiences for our audience. At the conclusion of this event, playground attendants will assist participants back to their respective playgrounds. Your Recreation Department sponsors and conducts a diverse yearround program of activities, events and services under the direction of professional supervision for all residents of the Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret. Residents wishing additional information regarding Recreation Department programs, or to offer suggestions for future programs or services, are requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department, located at Fredonia Village Hall between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 to 4:30 pm at 679-2311. You are welcome to join the program at any time during the summer and register during regular lesson times. If you are uncertain regarding the level of lessons for which you are best suited, please start at the least advanced level and the instructors will move you up. Children must be at least four feet tall. Groups will be formed based on level, and sessions will last from 30 to 45 minutes. Class size will be limited. COMMUNITY OPEN SWIM Fredonia High School Pool June 26 - August 4 Open swim pool activity will be available to Village and Town residents, weekdays from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Parents are encouraged to swim with their children. Certified lifeguards will coordinate pool activities. Several activities, such as craft projects may be included as part of the playground day. Each playground may have weekly scheduled events, such as: Craft Program, Special Outdoor games, Fire Prevention, Car Washes, Tie-Dyes, Penny Carnival, Basketball games, Pet Shows, Bake Sales and many more. BOYS AND GIRLS YOUTH BASKETBALL Russell Joy Park June 27 - August 5 Instruction and Games to be held Mondays and Wednesdays 9:00-10:30 am 7-9 year olds 10:30 am - Noon 10-13 year olds This program is designed to focus on the basic fundamentals of basketball for area boys and girls in the age groups: 7-9 year olds and 10-13 year olds. Team practices and games will be held at Russell Joy Park. PICKLEBALL INSTRUCTION Russell Joy Park June 28 - August 4 Tuesdays and Thursdays This program will provide instruction to all skill levels of pickleball players. Instruction will be between 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Age groups will be formed after registration is complete. TENNIS LESSONS Russell Joy Park June 26 - August 4 Tennis instruction will be given at the Russell Joy Park Tennis Courts. Classes will be conducted Mondays and Wednesdays for beginner, intermediate, as well as advanced. Beginners will have the court from 1:00pm - 1:50pm, Intermediate from 2:00pm 2:50pm, and advanced 3:00pm - 3:50pm. Participants need to supply court shoes and their own tennis racket. DRAMA CLUB Fredonia High School Auditorium June 27 - August 5 Interested participants will have an opportunity to practice drama skills and will rehearse for a live performance at the end of the summer. Production will be determined after meeting with participants. Kids between the ages of 9 - 15 years old will have the opportunity to rehearse from a script adapted by their instructors. The program will run Monday, Wednesday & Friday; from 1:00pm - 3:00pm with needed daily commitment from participants. Athletic wear should be worn to each session. A final performance will be held in conjunction with the Dance students in the 1891 Fredonia Opera House on a time and date TBD. SUMMER SEWING CLASS Village Hall Basement June 27 - August 3 Tuesdays and Thursdays This program is designed to instruct participants in the basic fundamentals of sewing. Students will be taught how to read a pattern and construct a simple garment. Classes will be taught between 1:00pm - 4:00pm and be coordinated by the instructor. Class size is limited. KARATE Karate Connection 168 Cushing St. July 12 - August 12 Wednesdays and Saturdays The Fredonia - Pomfret Recreation Department is teaming up with Karate Connection to offer a free program to community kids. The program will cover areas such as life skills, self - defense, and physical fitness during the 5 week course. Students, ages 4 and 6 will participate from 10:00am - 10:30am on Wednesday and from 12:40 – 1:10 PM on Saturday, while students between the ages of 7 and 13 will be from 10:30am - 11:15am on Wednesday and 11:05am – 11:50am on Saturday at the Karate Connection Facilities. Participants will receive a Report Card, Belt Testing, and this year, they will receive a Free Karate Connection Tee after they have completed 3 Weeks of the Program! Sign up is first come first served and class sizes are limited. Outdoor Movie Nights Lambert Ave. Playground Dates and Movies TBD We invite the whole community to come and enjoy a movie night under the stars! With the support of the always generous Fredonia Beaver Club, the Recreation Department has a 16’ x 9’ screen with a HD projector and sound! Movie nights are free of charge, made possible by contributions from the Fredonia Teachers Association and the First Ward Falcon Club. RUSSELL JOY PARK OPEN BASKETBALL,TENNIS, and Pickleball Lighted Courts atNight The Russell Joy Park basketball and tennis courts are open and lighted each evening throughout the summer. The courts are reserved for Fredonia-Pomfret residents only. There is no charge or preregistration for this program; simply come and enjoy the fine facility.
