The Prepositional Phrase Project in Explain Everything
Directions: You will be applying your knowledge of the proper use of prepositional
phrases in a creative way through the Explain Everything app. After viewing the
model project in class, you are to create a similar project on your iPad with Explain
Everything. Follow the steps below:
1. Find an icon you wish to use for your project. Remember that your teacher
must approve the icon, so choose wisely and appropriately. For the purpose
of the model, the cute teddy bear was used…
2. Next, determine where your icon figure is going to travel. You will need to have
a destination in mind such as a foreign country, around the U.S.A, a specific
region or state, a fantasy land…the possibilities are endless, but remember that
you will have to come up with 10 EXCELLENT photos of the location you have in
mind. For the model, the icon of Teddy traveled to Italy.
3. Select between 10-15 photos from the web that fit the destination you will be
profiling in your travel photo book. You only need 10, but it is good to have a
few extra to select from. (BE SURE TO KEEP ACCURATE RECORD OF THE URL
FOR EACH PHOTO. YOU WILL NEED TO DO A PHOTO CITATION AT THE END OF
YOUR PROJECT.) Here is an example from the model:
4. Next, you are to write up at least 10 sentences that incorporate at least one
prepositional phrase, though more than one phrase is encouraged. The
sentences must deal with your icon traveling through the region/area you have
already selected. An example from the model is the following:
Teddy is in a gondola along a river in Venice.
You must also use a variety of prepositions in your 10 sentences. They
should refer to location (by, near, against, between, etc.) and time (at, about,
during, before, after, etc.) and any other prepositions that fit well in your
travel book.
Your teacher must approve these 10 sentences BEFORE you begin
inserting them into your project.
5. Now you are ready to begin using Explain Everything to create your travel photo
book. Using the cropping tools in Explain Everything, you will begin by outlining
and cropping your approved icon.
Note: Proper cropping will get rid of any excess
background. A stylus will make this step easier.
6. Next, start to organize your photos onto the slides. You will have 12 slides in
total (Please, no more than the required amount.)
a. Slide #1 will be your introductory slide. It will state your name and the
name of the project: Prepositional Phrase Project: “Fill in the name of
your icon” Goes to “Fill in the name or your region/area.” Example:
Teddy Goes to Italy
b. Slides #2- #11 are your illustrated slides annotated with your sentences
containing prepositional phrases.
c. Slide #12 is your Photo Citation page. Follow the example in the model.
7. Lastly, you will use the writing tool in Explain Everything to circle your
prepositions and underline each prepositional phrase. Here is an example:
8. Proofread and edit any errors. Have fun with this project. Be as clever and as
creative as you can be with your photos and storyline about your icon’s travel
log.
IMPORTANT FINAL NOTE: Make sure you constantly save your work on EACH
file in Explain Everything. You do so by clicking on the small home-shaped button in
the lower right corner and click “Save” and then “Overwrite the project” or else you
will have numerous copies of the project. This can’t be overstated. If you do not do
this, you will lose your work if you leave the app or even if the app just suddenly
glitches and closes. Remember…you have been warned!
