Could you please confirm when had it been withdrawn? · When was the software implemented for University wide use? · Why has the University delayed the implementation of this anti plagiarism software? Australian Catholic University trialled Turnitin software in 2011 and the University has used the software since May 2012. It has never been withdrawn nor has implementation been delayed. Use of the software was not mandatory during the trial period while technical issues were identified and addressed. Turnitin is text-matching software and is one of several tools used in the detection of plagiarism. The detection of plagiarism is an academic judgement. · What is the university’s current commission structure for its international agents? (For example, 12.5 per cent of first-year tuition) · What was paid by the university and all its subsidiaries on commissions to agents in each financial year 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014? · What was paid in hospitality, entertainment and other ancillary expenses with respect to relationships with international agents in each financial year 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014? · Many universities do not disclose commissions they have paid in their financial statements; there are 12 universities that do. If your institution is one that has failed to disclose this expense, please justify this decision. · Has the university ever terminated its contract with an agent over integrity concerns of any nature? If so, please detail the circumstances. Australian Catholic University has an international student population of 3,000 students who come to study at ACU from over 90 different countries. This comprises of 10% of the overall student population of 30,000 students studying at the University. ACU manages the recruitment, admission and support of international students in accordance with the Education Services for Overseas Students Act, 2000 and the National Code, 2007. The University utilises the services of Education Agents to assist with the promotion and recruitment of international students to ACU. These relationships are established and managed to ensure compliance with Standard 4 of the National Code, 2007 (Education Agents). Each business relationship is established through a formal application process and confirmed with a formal contract. The contract requires the Agent to manage their business practices in line with the ESOS Act, 2000 and the National Code, 2007 and also details the management and monitoring ACU will undertake in relation to this contract and overall business relationship.
