By the time this letter is received, SAE (Senior Anglers of Escondido) will have returned from an outing at Cuyamaca/
Pinezanita. Trout are stocked in Lake Cuyamaca through June
19. A few weeks ago, the better trout fishing was on the other side of the spillway.
Lake Dixon and Lake Wohlford have stopped stocking trout
for this season. This will resume in November or December
depending on water temperatures.
Ron Parker recently gave a presentation to the Escondido
Sunrise Rotary explaining functions, benefits and good times
experienced by our club. The presentation was very well received. Thank you, Ron Parker.
The El Nino winds have made it difficult fishing, resulting in
the cancellation of some saltwater trips. As the weather continues to improve the tuna are getting closer to San Diego.
There are still some openings on the SAE club trip July 12.
We received notice that Wendy Hunter (Don's wife) has
passed. What a sweet lady. She will be definitely be missed.
May God be with her family and friends.

GOOD NEWS FOR EASTERN SIERRA ANGLERS FROM THE DFW
After six years of stocking non-breeding trout, next spring, the DFW will begin raising and stocking little
breeders in the Owens River and Mono Lake basins.
Stopped in 2011, lawsuits against DFW claimed brood stock may harm native Golden Trout and Cutthroats, by crossbreeding with Rainbow stockers.
DFW finally pointed out there are no native Cutthroats or Goldens in the Mono Lake or Owens River basins. Non-breeders will continue to be stocked in the Walker River.
The switch to breeders won’t lead to a sustainable fishery in either basin, said a state biologist. “There’s
too much fishing pressure,” he said.
The fishing community, who never really believed the sterile trout were up to par with their breeding
brethren, should applaud the re-introduction of breeders.

If you didn't get a Bluefin last year, this year is your next chance. The spotter plane for SAC (Sport
Fishing Association of California) reported a swatch of Bluefin that was one hundred yards wide and four
miles long, just to our south. It won't be long before those fish are here so it's time to get your equipment ready and a trip booked.
Fishing kelp off shore and to the South has provided steady fishing for small yellowtail. All we need
now is a stretch of calm weather and the huge volume of Bluefin staging near Colonet will make their
way North and into our grasp. That bite should be wide open on our July 12 3/4 day trip and August 29
all day trip. Be sure to sign up and pay $83 and $110 including tip at the next meeting or email me.
Don't wait. This year's bite is predicted to be better than last year!
There was a 150# Bluefin caught out of Seaforth on a 1 1/2 day boat yesterday!!! They ARE HERE.
We still have openings but they won't last!!

SURF FISHING
May’s Surf Fishing Tournament at Oceanside Harbor’s South Jetty turned out six anglers and only
one small perch. But dinner at Rockin’ Baja Lobster was great!
With four official tourney’s already in the tackle box, and four more left in the year, Cheryl Brandstrom
is still our Tournament Leader. But as the water heats up, so will the fishing. Watch out! Get out and
catch a big fish in the surf!
The next tourney date is Monday, June 12 off the beach in front of the Carlsbad Army/Navy Academy.
Breakfast is at 7:00 a.m. at Angelo’s Restaurant, 2035 S. Coast Hwy. in Oceanside, quick stop across the
street at Pacific Coast Bait & Tackle, and then down about a mile to the Academy beach around 8:00 a.m.
Please join us.
Mark your calendars for Monday, July 17. While it will be a non-Tourney event, we will be fishing off the
small pier in the Oceanside Harbor. Open to all members, especially those that need to sit. Good catches
in the past. Bring your chairs, and something to BBQ @ 12 noon.
It’s not too late to join the Surf Fishing Tournament. $10 sign up gets one in the running for that amazing
Bill Varney Signature Surf Rod. Call Don Continelli 760-224-3458 or Ken Harrison 760-815-2502 for
details.
