I have been involved in education and high school sports for over 40
years. I have a passion for both. I enjoy teaching on the college level. I
have the unique experience of having coached 6 sports (5 as a high
school head varsity coach) over a 22 year period and officiating
basketball and football for the Ohio High School Basketball Association
for many seasons. I believe that sports are a microcosm of our society.
It is about teaching and learning about life, including character traits
such as industriousness, confidence, enthusiasm, patience, competitive
greatness, poise, humility and self-control. In Ohio, I coached a state
champion in basketball and golf . I also officiated the 2005 Division 5
state championship game in football.

I ran a summer basketball camp every year I coached. The Daily
Record and WCAL Coach of The Year, 1987.

Varsity Boys Basketball Coach (1981-85).
Varsity Boys Golf Coach (1981-89 and 2009, 2010).
Golf League Coach of the Year 4 times.
2009 team was undefeated (14-0).
2010 team finished 5th in Ohio in D. 2.
I coached the 1984 AA state co-champion (Mark Taylor) and the
2010 #4 player in D.2 (Blake Foutty).
2000 Stark County Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year.
2004 Stark County Person of Character Award.

I have officiated 29 OHSAA state football playoff games and the
2005 D.5 football state championship game at Fawcett Stadium.
I have taught the new football officials class for The Wayne
County Officials Association since 2004.
Wooster Community Hospital
I volunteer an average of 300 hours per year in The Emergency
Room.
FAMILY
I have been married to Birdie since 1975. We have three adult
children – Jake (Stacey), Katie (Brent Coleman) and Mary
(Brett Carpenter). We have seven grandchildren.
