Pay:
Sessional Worker at £10.95 per hour, this would be a self employed
limited time post
Hours:
5 hours per week. 3pm – 6pm Wednesdays fixed time – 2hours
flexible.
Start date:
25th November 2015 until 30th March 2016 (this is time limited
maternity cover)

The BD5 Welcome Group is a well established after school group for refugee and asylum
seeking children and their families. Each week we provide a safe place for the families to do
sport, art and craft activities or cooking, play with toys and to socialise and relax.
Supported by a small team of volunteers the role of the group facilitator is to ensure that a
range of activities is provided each week and the group remains a welcoming, inclusive and
safe place for our families.
PURPOSE OF THE POST
To assist the Team in the following:
 To address the needs of refugee and asylum seeker children and their families in
overcoming barriers to learning, integration and social development, in order to
realise their full potential
 To ensure the delivery of learning, play and leisure opportunities that will address
those needs in a safe and caring environment.
 Develop opportunities for volunteers with appropriate skills to engage with the
project

Work closely with parents, local and refugee communities and take an active role in
promoting integration
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision and Guidance


The post holder will be responsible to the Children and Families Project Coordinator and will be expected to work alongside other staff and volunteers of the
organisation adding value to and enhancing the overall vision, mission and objectives
of the organisation.
Expected to work largely on own initiative with limited supervision, be self-servicing
for administration and ICT work and management and achievement of own
workload.
Range of Duties
 To plan, deliver and lead BD5 Welcome Group for asylum seeking children and
families at St. Stephens Church, Newton Street BD5 7BH
 Provide safe, creative and appropriate leisure and learning opportunities, which meet
the full range of children's individual and group needs, involving children and their
families in the planning and preparing of the programme, and ensuring that all
activities are carried out within the Equal Opportunities framework
 To manage resources at the venue used by the groups and also at the BAFR office
 Encourage the involvement and support from parents, siblings, teachers and other
educational and refugee agencies.
 Assist the Co-ordinator in the supervision and support of volunteers
 To be knowledgeable, trained and competent to recognise and deal with child
protection and safeguarding issues
 Assist the Co-ordinator in the administration of the group; record keeping, ordering
and purchasing of materials and equipment.
 To coordinate the provision of transport costs for clients and volunteers where
needed
 To carry out any other relevant duties as required.
The successful candidate will have:





Minimum Recognised qualification at Level 3 NVQ, GNVQ, A-Level
Minimum 12 months recent experience of working with 0-15 year olds from a wide
range of ethnic and social backgrounds in a voluntary or paid capacity
Ability to lead group activities and respond flexibly to the needs of the families within
the group setting
Experience of supporting and supervising volunteers
Experience of working as part of a team and own their own
