This scholarship was founded by Joey’s Aunt & Uncle: Rene and James Kehoe in recognition and support for future
Student Athletes. Joey exemplified the term Scholar-Athlete and played both Football and Basketball at Pope (Saint
John Paul II Academy). In Joey’s memory and honor this scholarship is for athletes who played Football or
Basketball in the current school year. This memorial scholarship is offered in honor of Joey, that the passion he had,
that made us so proud, may live on.
Joey graduated from Pope (Saint John Paul II Academy) in 2010 and attended the University of Pennsylvania and was
on his way to grad school at the University of Miami. There he would study Law and play Football for the Miami
Hurricanes after being red-shirted his freshman year. His high school dream was to sign and play for the “Canes,”
and that he did just one day before he left us. RIP JG3
Joey will always be remembered for his unconditional love
for his family and faith, and the way he lived his life to the fullest.

The Joey Grosso ’10 Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship provides a $2000 scholarship to a Saint John Paul II
Academy student who participated in Football or Basketball in this calendar school year, has financial need, and is in
good academic standing.
Who is an eligible applicant for The Joey Grosso ’10 Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship?
Enrolled at Saint John Paul II Academy
Demonstrates financial need
Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
A current Junior/rising Senior or a Senior accepted to college.
Football or Basketball player during this calendar year.
What criteria are used in evaluating The Joey Grosso Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship applications?
Eligibility is based on the criteria listed above. Students are required to submit an essay describing why they are
motivated to continue their education and how does being a student athlete help you with this motivation.
What restrictions are there on the use of The Joey Grosso ’10 Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship?
Recipients must use the monetary award for their upcoming Senior year tuition at Saint John Paul II Academy or toward
tuition at the college of their choice.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
All information requested on The Joey Grosso ’10 Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship Application Form must be
provided. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
1. The Nominee’s Autobiographical Essay: Each applicant must submit a signed essay, not to exceed one
single-spaced page. The essay will play a significant role in the selection process. Your essay should address the
following:
Educational Aspirations: Describe your motivation to continue your education and how you can balance
athletics and academics.
Achievements: Please include your achievements both on the field or court and in the classroom.

3. Nomination and References (OPTIONAL): Up to (2) letters of recommendation may be submitted
with application.
