Located in Vijaypur tehsil, this school was established in 2005 with an objective of imparting quality and standard education in this area and to replace the book based pedagogical system with one that aims in bringing an overall development in students. Children of all classes and categories from ten surrounding villages travel to Agraa to study at Adharshila. Our aim is to motivate more children from the lower cadres to study. History Adharshila School is administered by the Adharshila Shiksha Samiti. The Samiti was registered as a Society in 2003 with the Registrar of Firms and Societies, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, under the Madhya Pradesh Societies Registration Act, 1973. Adharshila started as an institution providing primary education but later turned into a secondary school. A distinguished achievement of Adharshila is that it is ready to transform into a High school from the next session. In the year 2001, Samrakshan Trust started an education programme for children of villages that were displaced from the Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary.. The aim of this education programme at that time was to provide temporary educational facilities till the government resumed facilities in the affected region. Though the programme achieved its objective by 2007, the Adharshila working team had by then, taken a decision to forward their vision of providing education to all by founding ‘Adharshila’. A distinguished achievement of Adharshila is that it is ready to transform into a High School from the next session. Play school Figure 1 Morning prayer at Adharshila As a result of responsibilities towards their younger siblings, many students were compelled to miss school days. To provide a solution to this problem, Adharshila Committee started a play school for their younger siblings so that they could attend classes, while their siblings played within the school campus itself.. The playschool started in 2011 and is currently attended by 41 children. Though it was important to dispatch a proposal to donor institutions to accumulate required funds, a need was felt to first organise an effective administrative structure. A meeting was organised to enhance the skills and capacities of the active body of Adharshila. All of last year’s efforts have fructified into making Adharshila a recognised institution by the Income Tax Department. Moreover suitable agencies have been selected for tax and accounts related issues and subsequent alliances with them have also been made. Along with the syllabus, numerous other activities are consistently undertaken to make studying and teaching more appealing. The focus is to make students understand the subject matter rather than strictly adhering to books. Students are encouraged to take up activities like calligraphy and painting so as to nurture their skills. 242 students have appeared for the Board examination out of a total of 299 in the 2011-12 session, while the rest remained absent. 236 students, out of those who appeared for the exams have passed. This marks the end of this session and the beginning of a new session. The Committee decided to start the new session immediately after the announcement of examination results i.e. from April Ist, 2012. With the objective of maintaining the quality of teaching standard in Adharshila the student- teacher ratio is kept as low as possible. Currently this ratio is 1:30, which represents the status of physical infrastructure The committee has initiated a competition called "Kaun Banega Hazaarpati" to increase the educational standard of students. A randomised selection of students is conducted and every Saturday afternoon, two students are given an opportunity to answer ten questions correctly. Depending on the number of questions answered correctly, a student can win anything between Rs 25 to Rs 1000. A Student of class VII getting an award of Rs. 1000 for winning Hazaar Pati Guardians’ meeting Due to the observation that some students remain consistently absent or non-punctual, and also due to irregular deposition of fees, a parents- teachers meeting was organised that saw more than 300 interested parents taking part in their child’s schooling.
