Press release: State Government Fails Regional Tasmania Again

Press release: State Government Fails Regional Tasmania Again
Sunday 15th Jan
SFP Tasmania calls on the State government to stop its journey of regional alienation and decimation
of valuable regional resources, cultural value and jobs.
With the recent announcement that Tasmanian Regional Arts (TRA) will close after 70 years of
operation because the state government will not fund its continued operation.
This organisation provides cultural and insurance support over 1,300 members across the state and
SFP Tasmania warn the State Government it can't afford to neglect areas outside the cities.
Regional and remote Tasmanians will not sit back, whilst out of touch politicians continue to centralise
arts funding to the chosen city few. Regional areas needed improved services, arts are an important
part of that cultural connect and sources of employment.
This Government continues to demonstrate the contempt it has for regional art and the general
public.
SFP party Tasmania will continue to advocate and provide that choice for all Tasmanians and
will be running candidates at the next state elections in our continued support for regional and
remote Tasmanians.
This constant attack on regional art and rural communities has to stop, they are the backbone
of this state and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
This decision appears to follow the current State and Federal Government policy of reducing services and
resources from rural Tasmanians.
