Moonrise Hotel Hosts 2nd Annual Green Ball to Benefit
Missouri Botanical Garden’s EarthWays Center
SAINT LOUIS, MO (February 28, 2011) - On Saturday, April 2, the giant moon
revolving high atop the Moonrise Hotel in the Loop will sport a green hue. The occasion? The
first annual Green Ball – a celebration of all things green in St. Louis.
The event commemorates the 41st Anniversary of Earth Day and the second anniversary
of the Moonrise Hotel that opened in April 2009. The Moonrise Hotel created by loop guru Joe
Edwards, and located at 6177 Delmar, is St. Louis’ first and only luxury boutique hotel.
“Where better to celebrate the Earth than under the moon?” said hotel owner, Joe Edwards.
“We’re excited to show people that it is possible to throw a great party that is eco-friendly.”

The party will be earth friendly with all electric use offset with renewable energy credits
donated by AmerenUE’s Pure Power program and additional power provided by solar panels.
Upon arrival, guests will walk an eco‐friendly green carpet; food will be displayed in a mini
farmer’s market fashion full of local produce and products. Guests will enjoy a fabulous menu of
locally sourced, organic foods prepared by Eclipse Chef de Cuisine, John Stuhlman. St. Louis
favorite Schlafly beer will be flowing and other creative cocktails and treats will be served on
real china and glassware. There will be a creative “green” attire fashion contest with guest
judges and live music by Hudson and the Hoo Doo Cats to get the crowd moving.
The cost of the event is $60 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Missouri
Botanical Garden’s EarthWays Center. Established as part of the Garden in 2000, the EarthWays
Center promotes sustainability through environmental education and improving the environment.
Through work with schools, universities, homeowners and businesses, the EarthWays staff
teaches participants about more-sustainable lifestyle choices, providing a fun and interesting way
to learn the importance of respecting the environment and protecting natural resources. For more
