†
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER - SOMERSET RIVERS AUTHORITY – INTERNAL
37 hours per week. Permanent.
Salary: £28,485 - £32,486 per annum
Job Ref No: 10279/SR
About us
The Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA) was formed after the major flood incident of 2013/14 and is
where the flood risk management authorities in Somerset come together to deliver extra flood
protection for the county. Through our 20 year Flood Action Plan and Enhanced Programme we’ve
delivered several million pounds worth of additional flood risk management improvements, ranging from
dredging and road raising, through to natural flood management and building community resilience there is a lot happening.
The SRA is all set to get legislation to become a separate precepting authority, able to raise its own
funds. In the meantime, it is a partnership, hosted by the county council, with a small staff team in
support and special dispensation from the government to raise funds through council tax. There is
considerable public, stakeholder and partner interest in what we do and how we do it and as a result it
is important for the SRA’s future to ensure that every opportunity is taken to publicise our work and
achievements.
About the role
We are now looking for someone to plan and deliver a full range of marketing and communications
activities for the SRA, working with the communications teams of all the SRA partners as well as the
SRA Senior Manager. You will be involved in developing an agreed communications strategy and
protocols and delivering communication and marketing activity in support of specific SRA works as well
as protecting and improving the SRA’s image and reputation and getting key messages across about
flood risk management.
You will also hold public events, both information giving and consultation, and arranging stakeholder
tours of the SRA’s work.
About you
You will need to have good experience of both complex public sector partnership working and
communications and marketing through a wide range of channels. A good understanding of flood risk
management challenges and activity, particularly in Somerset, is also necessary. You need to be able
to demonstrate political awareness and sensitivity, be organised, focussed, adaptable and be able to
communicate effectively at all levels, with experience of dealing with a wide range of people, including
the public, colleagues, partners and stakeholders. You will have good knowledge and experience of
social media and website development, as well as having sound copy writing and design skills.
But above all else, you will have enthusiasm for this important area of work.
The role will be based in Taunton but as some of our meetings are in other parts of Somerset you will
need to be able to travel to other locations.
