Henry Bribiescas, 7th season @ Mountain View High

Henry Bribiescas begins his 8th year as the Toro’s Girl’s Basketball Varsity Coach.
As
the head coach, Bribiescas has achieved a 181-37 record at Mountain View which led his
team to a 29-3 record last season gaining a berth in the Division 1 State Final Four for the
second consecutive year.
Bribiescas began his high school coaching career at Dobson High School, as an assistant
junior varsity girl’s basketball coach (1996-1999) and was later promoted to head junior
varsity coach from 1999-2001.
In 2001, Bribiescas was hired as the Desert Vista High School Girl’s Varsity Basketball
Coach. He inherited one player from the previous year, but welcomed six outstanding
freshmen. Despite having a 12-17 record that year, the Thunder would gain valuable
experience and dominate the Central Region for the next three years, undefeated (27-0)!
Bribiescas would lead the Thunder to the 5A State Finals in 2004. The Thunder would
reach the 5A Final Four again in 2005. Bribiescas would then leave Desert Vista with a
82-34 overall record, along with three consecutive undefeated 5A Central Region Titles!
He was named the East Valley Tribune Coach of the Year, Arizona Republic Southeast
Valley Coach of the year in 2004, and also be named 5A Central Region Coach of the
Year in 2003, 2004, 2005.
In 2005, Bribiescas began his new coaching endeavor and moved to Mountain View High
School. The Toro’s would impressively win 26 games, ending their season in the 5A
State Final Four. Bribiescas would earn East Valley Tribune Coach of the Year honors in
2006. The next season, the Toro’s would win an impressive 31 games, tying a school
record, and a 5A State Championship Game Appearance! The Runner-up Toro’s, also
earned top 50 national rankings by MaxPreps and other publications. In 2009, the Toro’s
would again appear to the 5A State Final Four.
In 2011 & 2012, the Toro’s again persevere and qualify for the 5A State Final Four. This
would be the 5th time in 7 years the Toro’s would appear in the state semi-finals. In 2011,
the Toro’s would win their bracket at the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions and
in 2012 win the 1st ever AIA Division 1 Sectional Championship. The Toro’s were also
East Valley Region Champions in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011. Bribiescas would earn East
Valley Region Coach of the Year honors in 2007, 2009, and was also honored as 5A
Division 1 Coach of the Year by the Arizona Coaches Association in 2011 & 2012.
Henry Bribiescas currently owns a 268-71 overall record in his 11 years of coaching
girl’s high school varsity basketball in Arizona.
A native of Superior, Arizona, Bribiescas is a 1979 graduate of Superior High School,
where he was a three sport athlete excelling in basketball and track. He graduated from
Arizona State University in 1998 earning a Bachelors Degree in Education. Bribiescas is
a member of the Arizona Coaches Association. He and his wife, Valerie, were married in
1995 and have three daughters Ashley, Monique, Shauna, and a son Joshua.
