The Federated Schools of the Upper Afan Valley “Working together, learning together, succeeding together” “cyd-weithio,cyd-ddysgu,cyd-lwyddo” Vacancy: Secondment as Acting Headteacher of the Federated Schools of the Upper Afan Valley: Salary scale: L26 – 31 Start date: 1st Sept 2017 The Governors are seeking to appoint a dedicated, motivated and inspirational Acting Head Teacher, following the retirement of the current post holder. The secondment will be for one year in the first instance with the possibility of it being extended. The UAVF comprises five schools Cymer Afan Comprehensive, Pen Afan Primary, Cymer Afan Primary, Croeserw Primary and Glyncorrwg Primary. The geography of the UAF facilitates the development of a federated structure with the secondary school centrally located in the heart of the valley, and the four primaries dispersed around the valley in the villages of Cymer, Blaengwynfi, Croeserw and Glyncorrwg. The secondary school and its four partner primary schools work closely together to share resources and expertise, and implement a common curriculum strategy that provides continuity of learning across the primary and secondary phases of education for pupils from the age of 3 – 16. The area served by the school is mainly rural and approximately 40.3% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, significantly higher than the Welsh average of 17.5%. Around 83% of pupils live in the 20% most deprived areas of Wales. The intake of pupils spans the full range of ability and 39% of these have additional learning needs, which is well above the Welsh average. We will be delighted to welcome prospective applicants for an informal visit; please contact Mrs Louise Jones (Acting School’s Business Manager) to make an appointment. Further information about our school is available on our website. https://www.npted.org/schools/cymerafan/Pages/home.aspx If you are interested and excited about the opportunities that a federated approach can bring to realising the true potential of children and young people in the Upper Afan Valley, then please send completed letters of interest to Mrs Louise Jones, Acting School Business Manager at [email protected] or telephone her on 01638 850237. The seconded post offers an opportunity for a well-qualified, highly motivated and committed professional with considerable leadership experience to lead across the phases and sustain the achievements and developments of the federation. If you wish to be considered as a potential candidate for this position, please write a letter expressing your interest in the post and provide more detailed information about the experiences, skills, qualifications and attributes that make you a suitable candidate. Expressions of interest are invited from current senior leaders from both the primary and secondary sectors. It is not an essential requirement to hold the NPQH qualification.
