CANDIDATE STATEMENTS
Below in alphabetical order are the five Candidate Statements please read them all
Ethan Cossey, Samantha Foster, Kate Jack, Kian Manilal, and Sasha Morpeth
Hey everyone! My name is Ethan Cossey and I am running for the BoT
student representative position.
Throughout the school I have often heard students from varying age groups
talk about things that they would like to change in the school most of these
ideas are great and indeed doable in my opinion. In my eyes everyone has
an opinion and these opinions should be listened to, that's where I come in!
I enjoy changing things to suit others and I will always listen to anyone with
an idea. All you have to do is approach me at any time (obviously a reasonable time) and
tell me your idea and if I like it or it seems good I'll take straight to the BoT meetings!
With every choice comes a new opportunity, a new way to make the school the best it can
be and to help learners find school less 'boring'.
Thank you for your time
Ethan Cossey
Hey guys! My name is Samantha Foster and I am a year 12 student here at
Whangaparaoa College. I have been nominated to become the 2017
student representative for the board of trustees. I would love to have the
opportunity to be your voice in what improvements and changes you want to
see in our school! I am a very friendly and approachable person and would
be open to listen to any suggestions you may have. As I am already a very
friendly person and talk to many different people throughout the school, I
already hear a lot of conversation on how we could improve and change the school for the
better. By getting this great opportunity of becoming the student representative I would do
my very best to put your ideas and opinions in action. I would not judge nor criticise any
matters that you think are important to the school, I would treat this job with much respect
and maturity. I cannot promise you that every one of your ideas for the school are going to
work and happen, but I can promise you that I will try my very best to make sure your voice
is heard and considered. I would continue making this school a more exciting and enjoyable
place to learn. I would love to see more extracurricular activities, new and different sports
teams recognised and I would also love to create a closer bond between year groups. I
would love to be the student that represents your voice, and I can assure you that I would do
the best I can to make sure you are heard. Please feel free to approach me if you ever have
any questions. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
My name is Kate Jack, I’m in year 12, and I’d like to be your Student
Representative for 2017. My aim is to help develop our school into the best
possible environment for us students, no matter what your passions are. I’m
involved in all areas of school from sports to the arts, so I have good idea of
some things you guys want to improve, whether it involves de-moulding the
PE bibs or more slightly unique extracurriculars. If you know me already,
you’ll know that I’m happy to listen, hard-working and I’ll speak up for
something I’m passionate about, and if you don’t, feel free to approach me with any
questions before ticking that little square next to my name. I’ve also had some experience
with being a public voice, which has involved national events where I’ve spoken directly to
the government, so I think I’d be a good choice for getting your voice across to our school
board. So if you have a handy tip for removing mould or any other ideas for improvements to
make student life easier, vote and I’ll do my best to voice your opinions. Thanks for taking
your time to read this, and remember- Kate is your mate.
Kian Manilal
Statement to come. Kian is currently away at AIMS umpiring for our
College.
Hi everyone, my name is Sasha Morpeth and I am a Year 12 student here
at Whangaparaoa College. For the year of 2017 I would love to represent
you all and be your voice as the Student Representative on the Board of
Trustee’s. I am currently the Year 12 representative on the Student Council
and this has given me a great understanding and very valuable experience
of matters concerning students. The knowledge I have gained from this has
also given me a great insight into the representation of ideas to others. I am
a very approachable person and I would welcome the opportunity to voice your opinions and
ideas so we can continue to make Whangaparaoa College an outstanding learning
environment with a great social culture and an amazing variety of opportunities. You may
have seen me around school as I love to get involved in all activities including sports,
academic pursuits, performing arts, Shave for a Cure, Justice League and many other
school interest groups. This has allowed me to be very open minded, passionate and
determined to make every learner’s school experience the best it can possibly be! If I was
honoured with this position of student representative I will ensure that I am always available
to listen to whatever concerns and ideas any learners may have with an open mind at all
times. I have been at this College for 6 years now and I now feel it’s time that I give back to
the school and the learners. Thank you for taking your time to read this and together let’s
make Whangaparaoa College the best it can possibly be!
