CASE STUDY: Unique integrated solution offers safer way to minimize operating costs MATURE FIELDS DEEP WATER Integrated Abandonment Solutions Integrated cased hole with combined nonexplosive solution improves safety and logistics cost, reduces footprint on high-profile P&A project Location: Indonesia HAL41174 Overview Because of logistical delays for permitting, transporting, and storing explosives, an operator in Indonesia sought a way to mitigate the risks and costs associated with using explosives to punch and cut tubing for a plug and abandonment (P&A) operation. Deck space was limited on the proposed vessel so Halliburton recommended an integrated cased-hole (ICH) combo unit capable of performing multiple intervention solutions using slickline, electric line, and fishing. A service package was proposed that included nonexplosive pipe recovery solutions to cut and punch the tubing. Halliburton’s unique integrated solution helped the operator to improve job efficiency, reduce HSE exposure, and minimize overall operating expenses. By integrating multiple intervention solutions into a single unit, the customer was able to minimize risks and costs on its deepwater project located offshore Indonesia. CHALLENGES SOLUTIONS RESULTS Mitigate costs and risks associated with explosives Using explosives for the P&A operation would require logistical delays for permitting, transporting, and storing explosives. Halliburton proposed nonexplosive approach A service package was recommended that included nonexplosive pipe recovery solutions to cut and punch the tubing. Safety risks and expenditures minimized The use of a nonexplosive approach to punch and cut the tubing eliminated the need for explosive permits, explosive security escorts, and costly transportation of explosive materials. Required both slickline and electric lines for operations This P&A operation needed electric line and slickline for the first phase of the operation. Deck space was limited so the operator needed a way to accomplish both services with a limited footprint. Integrated cased-hole combo unit saves space and money Halliburton suggested a unique ICH combination unit. Slickline, electric line, and fishing could all be performed efficiently from this single unit. Decreased expenses a result of simplified logistics The space-saving combo unit was able to perform all the necessary services and required only one crew vs two, lowering transportation and change-out costs, bed space, and daily crew rates. Solving challenges.™ CASE STUDY: Unique integrated solution offers safer way to minimize operating costs Unique integrated cased-hole unit efficiently and safely addresses P&A project needs An Indonesian operator needed a way to mitigate the risks and costs associated with using explosives to punch and cut tubing for a P&A operation. This was due to logistical delays for permitting, transporting, and storing explosives. The P&A operation required the services of both electric line and slickline to perform the first phase of the operation. Due to the deck space on the proposed vessel, the operator needed a way to accomplish both services with a limited footprint. Halliburton proposed an integrated cased-hole combo unit to perform multiple intervention solutions using slickline, electric line, and fishing from a single unit. For nonexplosive challenges, Halliburton proposed a service package that included nonexplosive pipe recovery solutions to cut and punch the tubing without the use of explosives. The combination of slickline/electric-line unit reduced personnel on board and eliminated changing between electric-line and slickline units. The P&A project was performed with one integrated crew instead of separate slickline and electric-line crews. The logistics were simplified during crew change, which also led to savings on transportation, bed space, and daily crew rates. Logistics and transportation costs of both the electric-line unit and slickline unit were reduced to a single transportation cost. A single dual-purpose pressure control equipment (PCE) configuration simplified the services performed by slickline/electric line. The nonexplosive approach to punch and cut the tubing eliminated the need for explosive permits, explosive security escorts, costly transportation of explosive materials, and possible time delays. The ability to combine technologies enabled Halliburton to create a unique integrated solution, which in return improved job efficiency, reduced HSE exposure, and minimized overall operating expenses. mini mize s foo tprin HAL41940 t and www.halliburton.com Sales of Halliburton products and services will be in accord solely with the terms and conditions contained in the contract between Halliburton and the customer that is applicable to the sale. 3/2016 H012036 © 2016 Halliburton.
