MAIN PURPOSE OF POST
Leading on the growth of Change that Lasts, the Business Development Lead will work with
stakeholders to develop and embed a sustainable business model to scale and replicate
Change that Lasts across England.
The post holder will be expected to maximise income from Change that Lasts which can be
invested in its further expansion, both in terms of geographic and beneficiary reach and in terms
of development of the model itself.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Change that Lasts Business Development

Develop relationships with local Women’s Aid member services, VAWG leads,
commissioners and other stakeholders

Promote and generate interest in Change that Lasts, nationally and locally

Engage local commissioners and other potential purchasers of Change that Lasts

Engage member services and survivors of domestic abuse in the development of Change
that Lasts and implementation opportunities

Identify and negotiate business opportunities to work with partners to implement Change
that Lasts

Keep abreast of local strategic developments, as well as national policy and guidance,
identifying trends and potential opportunities for growth

Develop a long term strategy, business model and delivery plan to enable Women’s Aid to
support national implementation of Change that Lasts

Develop and oversee budgets required for proposals and delivery

Develop the framework and resources required to support the implementation of the
business model

Identify, evaluate and coordinate bids for funding opportunities, in partnership with
members and relevant stakeholders

Ensure plans to roll out Change that Lasts in new areas are rooted in the expressed needs
and wishes of survivors of domestic abuse in those areas, from diverse backgrounds and
communities

Identify and source the resources required to deliver new opportunities

Support the marketing of Women’s Aid quality, outcomes and training frameworks that
assist in the delivery of Change that Lasts

Develop new Change that Lasts projects to a point at which they can be handed over to
the project teams at local and national levels

Along with the Director of Services, support the Change that Lasts management team to
deliver funded projects

Ensure effective communication with stakeholders

Ensure all business development work aligns with and represents the values and ethos of
Women’s Aid
2. General

Recruit, supervise and effectively line manage managers and other team members
identified as necessary to deliver development work

Contribute to the preparation of the annual business plan with targets for your strand of
work, to monitor and evaluate the success of those targets on an annual cycle

Ensure efficient and effective internal communication and information flow and foster cooperation between staff in order to maximise the potential of own work

Maintain the profile of Women’s Aid proactively and ensure that Women’s Aid fundraising,
publicity and PR priorities and events are informed by the development needs of Change
that Lasts

Report on learnings from projects to national and local stakeholders, including government
and funders

Monitor , evaluate and report on the impact of work undertaken

Keep the EMT and other relevant staff up to date on all project delivery issues through
regular internal briefings

Ensure the proper management of any project budgets and participate in financial
management and reporting at departmental level as required

Maintain clear and adequate records of work done and to produce reports on work
programmes and activities as required

Take direction on priorities from the Director of Services, which may vary from time to
time.

Carry out word-processing, filing, and administrative tasks necessary to fulfil the job
description

Abide by all organisational policies, codes of conduct and practice, and to work within a

Be flexible within the broad remit of the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Business Development Lead – Change that Lasts
EXPERIENCE
Essential:
 Experience of identifying and developing successful business development opportunities in
a relevant setting
 Experience of negotiating contracts and/or delivery plans with stakeholders
 Extensive experience of writing and producing proposals, budgets, plans, reports or other
information resources
 Experience of managing team members to deliver against project plans.
 Experience of working with funders at all stages of project development from relationshipbuilding through to bid-writing and delivery
Desirable:
 Experience of working in an environment delivering services to survivors of gender based
violence
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Essential:
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills at a variety of levels to a wide range of
audiences
 Ability to plan and deliver projects within a set timeframe and with clear outputs/outcomes
 Ability to analyse complex information and identify its implications for women and children
affected by gender-based violence and services supporting them
 Skilled at negotiation at a strategic level to achieve positive outcomes
 Ability to work on own initiative to meet objectives in a complex, changing environment
and to plan, initiate, manage and evaluate projects, to meet project budgets
 An entrepreneurial approach to the identification and development of funding opportunities
and the ability to “sell” an idea to potential funders
Desirable:
 Highly computer literate and proficient in word-processing, spreadsheets and databases,
email and Website technology, preferably in a Windows based environment
KNOWLEDGE
Essential:
 A good understanding of the experiences and needs of women and children affected by
gender based violence
 A good understanding of the role of local strategic work to reduce domestic violence and
the local stakeholders involved in this work
 A good understanding of local commissioning frameworks and practice, and other relevant
funders including charitable foundations and government
 A working knowledge of domestic violence commissioning and delivery frameworks
Desirable
 An excellent understanding of the roles of different agencies in supporting women and
children at risk of gender-based violence, and in particular Women’s Aid’s member services
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Desirable:
 No formal qualifications are required for this role although evidence of relevant learning is
advantageous.

SUMMARY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Terms of appointment: Confirmation of appointment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a
probationary period. This will normally be of six months (less for short term contracts). During this time an
employee will be expected to establish their suitability for the post. During the probationary period
employment may be terminated in writing, giving one week's notice by either party (this may be waived by
mutual agreement). Only any statutory dismissal procedure will apply during the probationary period. There
is no probationary period for contracts of under 3 months.
Salary: £44,103-47,823. (On an incremental scale guided by the NJC Local authority pay scale points 5155) + benefits. Salary is paid in arrears through bank credit by the 25th of each month. Part time staff
receive pro-rata payment based on hours worked.
Working hours: The standard working hours for this post are 37 hours per week, based in Bristol or
London; benefits include a generous bank holidays and annual leave package and contributory pension
scheme.
Support and supervision: Women’s Aid has a commitment to providing regular supervision and support
to staff with annual appraisals forming a key part of staff development. We have a training policy in place
and encourage staff to take an active role in their career development plan.
Pension: Women’s Aid is enrolled with the People’s Pension scheme. Women’s Aid normally contributes 7%
of salary and the employee contributes 3% towards the group pension scheme. Eligible staff will be
automatically enrolled on the scheme when they have successfully completed the 3 month interim
probationary review. .
Annual Leave: Women’s Aid offers an annual leave entitlement of 25 days per year rising by one day per
year until 30 days annual leave per year is reached. In addition, we offer 8 days public holidays plus 2
additional days in March and August. All leave entitlement is calculated pro-rata for part time employees.
Other leave: Employees have contractual rights to time off for reasons of sickness, maternity and other
circumstances.
Period of notice: 1 month after your probationary period has been completed.
Union: You have a right to membership of a trade union. Women’s Aid recognises Unison.
Asylum and Immigration Act 1996: To comply with this Act, Women’s Aid will need to see the original
of at least one document from a specified list, most commonly a British Passport.
