AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING VACCINATIONS
FOR DOGS, PROHIBITING THE RUNNING
AT LARGE OF DOGS, AND PROVIDING FOR
IMPOUNDMENT AND DISPOSITION OF DOGS
FOUND RUNNING AT LARGE
BE IT ORDAINED BY ,THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMP WOOD:
1.
Every owner of a dog within the City of Camp
Wood, Texas, shall have such dog vaccinated against rabies
by the time such dog is four months of age, and at least
once in every twelve-month period thereafter.
If a dog is
more than four months of age on the effective date of this
ordinance, and has not been vaccinated within the preceding
twelve months, then such dog shall be vaccinated against
rabies within sixty days from the effective date of this
ordinance.
Each owner shall obtain from the veterinarian
vaccinating the dog a certificate in form approved by the
Texas Board of Health.
2.
It is unlawful for the owner of a dog to
permit the dog to run at large within the city limits.
A
dog is running at large if the dog is present at any place
other than the premises of the owner, except that a dog is
not running at large if it is on a leash and under the con
trol of a person physically able to control it.
3.
Whenever the City dog warden finds a dog
running at large, he shall, if possible, take possession of
and impound the dog in the City dog pound.
If an impounded
dog bears a collar tag or license identifying the owner,
the owner shall promptly be notified by certified mail,
return receipt requested, of such impoundment.
Any impounded
dog shall be held for a period of not less than seven days
from the date of impoundment.
4.
Upon the expiration of not less than seven
days from the date of impoundment, if the dog has not been
reclaimed as hereinafter provided, then it shall be humanely
euthanized.
5.
The owner of an impounded dog may at any
time prior to the euthanization of the dog reclaim it by pre
senting a vaccination certificate for the dog dated within
the preceding twelve months, and by paying to the City the
reasonable cost of maintaining the dog plus an impoundment
fee of fifteen
($15.00)
dollars.
If the owner does not
present the vaccination certificate herein required, the
City may have the dog vaccinated prior to relinquishing it
to the owner, and shall add the cost thereof to the impound
ment
fee.
6.
A person commits an offense if he knowingly
or willingly violates Sections 1 or 2 of this ordinance.
An
offense is punishable by a fine upon conviction not exceed
ing $200.00.
7.
This ordinance shall take effect ten
(10)
days after its passage.
