This day­long activity involves students planning and organising the future finances of a
person/family who wish move house. During the event students will learn about financial words,
bank statements, budgeting and forecasting, and the monetary value of utilities, homes, furniture.
Students will be required to produce a 3 minute presentation that will summarise and display their
plans and how they intend to fund their chosen family's dreams.
Student will learn about...
bank accounts, credit/debit, utility bills, insurances, housing, income, welfare benefits, interest.
Students will learn the importance of...
forward planning, assessing risks, setting priorities and goals.
Student will develop skills of...
time management, teamwork, motivation, responsibility and communication skills.
Students are allocated to teams of 5 or 6 and given the task of planning the next year's finances for
a randomly selected person/family. After a short glossary/definitions task, each team must spend
the day preparing a presentation that will summarise their plans.
In order to save time, not all students will present to the judges.

The whole activity will be organised around the use of 2 areas within the school...
Group­work Areas
These are the primary working areas. In each area teams work on suitable desks/tables
assisted by one teacher and on judge.
Main Activity Area
A large area with presentation facilities with theatre­style seating. There will be an
introduction for everyone in the morning and a plenary session incorporating the final
presentations at the end of the day.
