How Is Volunteerism In NSRPH?
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
How Has Volunteerism Changed
• Less volunteers in Canada
• Remaining volunteers have less time
– Not true in Nova Scotia
• Concerns with liability continue to grow
• Responsibilities being increasingly
downloaded to service organizations
• Governance accountabilities increasing
• Fund development increasingly important
How Have Volunteers Changed
•
•
•
•
•
Volunteers want more specific experiences
Volunteers don’t want to fund-raise
Volunteers want to make a contribution
Volunteers don’t want to go to meetings
Volunteers will not work with toxic people
or in toxic environments
Put The Work In
• Give up 10% of your budget OR
• Give up 10% of your people
• Which would you choose?
• Does this reflect what you do?
Your day timer knows everything.
If you care you showed up.
What Is The Problem
& Deal With It
• Poor group dynamics
• Lack of engagement
• Confusion over roles
