From The President
Welcome to the Holiday Season at The Landings! Our lovely community really
celebrates in fine fashion. The parties, the decorations, the concerts, the smiling faces –
all go together to make our locale particularly festive.
The Landings Club has planned a month of spectacular socials, performances,
dinners, and events – starting with the Lighted Holiday Golf Cart Parade and culminating in
the spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration. Club members are advised to make their
reservations early. There are also Landings Landlovers festivities, decorated house tours,
concerts at several Island churches, and an evening of community caroling on December 7th
with The Ceremonial Brass Ensemble at the Village clock tower. And, of course, Savannah
offers delightfully festive holiday decorations and happenings, like the Lighted Boat
Parade, Christmas on the River, the Savannah Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops concert at the
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Savannah Christian Church’s unique presentation of
“The Journey,” the lighting of the menorahs in observance of Chanukah, Coastal Georgia
Botanical Gardens’ “December Nights and Holiday Lights,” and the colorful musical
extravaganza “A Christmas Tradition” at the historic Savannah Theatre.
Or how about hosting a group of your new best friends for an everyone-bringsomething seasonal cocktail or dinner party? Now is the perfect time to create new
holiday traditions in your adopted home community!
Did you know – now that the Cabana Bar at Marshwood has closed for the season,
our New Neighbors who are Landings Club members have moved their Thursday night
gathering to the Patio at Deer Creek. The cool-weather fire pits make this a terrific place
to see your neighbors, greet some of the growing group of brand-new NN members, and
get to know Club members who are not so new.

popular events that are filling quickly. Our suggestions that may help:

Most activities rotate and will be repeated in the next 2 years, so try again.

If you have attended an activity previously, step back and let others have a few
days to tube their checks before you deliver yours.

Use the information in the newsletter to plan a similar trip on your own or with a
few new friends.
The Activity Chairs are working diligently to create various opportunities for you to meet
other NN members. Since keeping everyone happy is impossible, patience, a few kind
words, and a smile for these volunteers is the least we can do to repay their service.

the Activity chairs. If not properly written, there is more work for everyone and
you will have a "do over." Always include your email address and phone number on the

sign-up cannot be honored. The activity chair will make arrangements for the check to be
returned or shredded as requested.
*Activities charging a fee to attend will have a “no-refund” policy. If there is a wait list
and you can be replaced, you will be allowed to cancel.

BREAKFAST CLUB
When:: Wednesday, December 17
This month will give women a chance to breakfast downtown at the
DeSoto Grill in the Hilton Hotel on Liberty Street. This casually elegant dining room in the
historic district is famous for its Southern breakfasts. Afterward you can enjoy the
historic district decorated for the holidays and the many boutiques nearby.

GOURMET SUPPER CLUB
When: Saturday, January 24, 2015
Save the date for the next Gourmet Supper Club dinner! The January dinner features the
recipes of Hugh Acheson. Chef Acheson has received multiple James Beard awards and is
the owner of several Georgia restaurants including Savannah's The Florence. Acheson is
also a regular on Bravo's Top Chef.

POTLUCK DINNER
When: Saturday, January 3, 2015
Please join your new neighbors for a Pot Luck dinner at a host home and meet new people in
a smaller group setting while enjoying good food and conversation.
Cost: A host home will be assigned and you will be contacted directly about your
contribution to the menu. In addition, please bring your choice of beverage.

DECORATIVE ARTS

MUSEUM TOUR - our New Neighbors will enjoy a private docent tour of the Telfair and
Jepson Museums. Telfair, founded in 1883 at the bequest of local philanthropist Mary
Telfair, is the oldest public art museum in the South. We will learn about the art and
architecture of its era. In contrast, we will also tour the contemporary Jepson Center
which focuses on the art of today. Our tour will be followed by lunch at Maxwell's, located
near the museum.

SPECIAL EVENT: COOKIE SWAP FOR

Each New Neighbor brings 5 dozen of the same holiday cookie. Half of these
cookies will be for swapping (and taking back home) and the other half will be
left at the swap to be distributed to charities in Savannah. If 30 people
attend, NNs will be donating 75 dozen cookies to charity! We will start with
a social hour with light refreshments followed by the swap. It’s great fun for a great

AMERICA’S SECOND HARVEST of

Coastal Georgia
Plan to join us for a morning at America’s Second Harvest packing food boxes for needy
seniors in the Coastal area. No skill is required, just a caring heart. About 20 New
Neighbors are needed for these Saturday mornings.

CAKES FOR KIDS

Pull out your mixer and fire up your oven to share some of your home-baked treats.
“CAKES for KIDS” supplies 5 dozen cupcakes monthly to Safe Shelter (which provides
temporary emergency shelter and confidential services to victims of domestic violence).
With your help, every child at the shelter can celebrate their birthday with a homemade
cake. You will bake cupcakes at your home and then gather together with 3 other NNs to
have an “Icing Party” before the cakes are delivered.
