Small Quantity Exemption Acceptance Criteria
The HSW Depot will only accept hazardous waste, hazardous industrial waste, characteristic
waste and liquid industrial waste from ICI generators. The ICI generator must meet the criteria of
small quantity exemption as stated in the Registration Guidance Manual for Generators of Liquid
Industrial and Hazardous Waste. The Small Quantity Exemption (SQE) limits for hazardous and
characteristic waste is 5 kg/month (60 kg/year) and is 25 kg/month (300 kg/year) for liquid
industrial waste.
Hazardous Waste – Acceptance Criteria
The HSW Depot will only accept 60 kg of hazardous waste per year per generator.
The hazardous waste shall be received in containers no greater than 25 litres in size.
The containers must be sealed, in good condition (not broken or leaking) and be labeled as
described below.
Hazardous Waste - Labeling Requirements
Each container must be identified with a label showing the company name, address, telephone
number, name of the company representative and contents of the container.
Each container of hazardous waste must have a certificate containing the following statements
affixed to the container:
o “All waste in this container is hazardous industrial waste, hazardous waste chemical or
characteristic waste.”
o “No waste in this container has been mixed, blended, bulked or in any other way
intermingled with any other waste or material.”
o “This waste has been generated solely at [insert name of generator]’s facility which
generates no greater than 5 kg of hazardous industrial waste, hazardous waste chemical
and characteristic waste in any month and is being accumulated for transportation
purposes only.”
o “This container and seal comply with the requirements of the Generator Registration
Manual.”
o The total weight of this container does not exceed 30 kg.”
Liquid Industrial Waste – Acceptance Criteria
Liquid industrial waste is limited to antifreeze, oil and paint.
The HSW Depot will only accept 300 litres of each type of liquid industrial waste per year per
generator.
The hazardous waste shall be received in containers no greater than 25 litres in size.
The containers must be sealed and in good condition (not broken or leaking).
Liquid Industrial Waste – Labeling Criteria
Containers greater than 4 litres must be identified with a label showing the company name,
address, telephone number, name of the company representative and contents of the
container.

2. the waste generating facility identified above produces hazardous wastes, as defined in
Ontario Regulation 347, in quantities that qualify the waste being diverted as small
quantity exempt.
3. all of the waste(s) described above was produced by only the facility named above.
I certify that the information provided on this certificate and the statements above are accurate
and complete. I acknowledge that it is an offence under section 184(3) of the Environmental
Protection Act to include false or misleading information in any document or date required to be
created, stored or submitted under the Act.
