We had to purify water with a bottle, a sock, sticky weed and charcoal. We purified water by putting sticky weed in the sock and tipping the water into the sock. The sock acted as a filter to take out all the bits and pieces. Then you have purified water which you can boil and then you can drink it or use it for cooking. By RONNIE AND OLIVER Campfire Cooking Years 5 and 6 went on their residential to Ringsfield Hall and learnt how to survive in the wild. We learnt how to build shelters, make a fire and leave no trace and we learnt how to cook food on a fire. We learnt how to cook battered stinging nettles, doc leaves and sticky-weed. It tasted like batter with a leaf inside. We also cooked bread made out of flour and water. It tasted like plain bread but with a lot of flour. To drink we had stinging nettle soup or tea. By Charley and Lizzie Art Barn at Ringsfield In our free time at Ringsfield some of us went to the art barn were you could do anything with paints, pastels, chalks and pencils. The art barn was very peaceful and calm, it was a place that was very homely. Every day from 4 o’clock a lady called Gina went to the art barn and used a spinning wheel, some of us got to try the spinning wheel. By Tilly and Abbie Ringsfield Hall Labyrinth On 16th May Beech Tree Class arrived at Ringsfield Hall and when we first got there we had a tour around the 14 acres of land. A while through our tour we found a labyrinth. A labyrinth is different to a maze because there are no dead ends like there are in a maze. The labyrinth we found was filled with stinging nettles and was made of willow. In a labyrinth you walk through an entrance and find your way to the middle, then have to find your way back out but there are lots of different ways in and out. By Emily and Martine Our topic is invaders and settlers by Harry Seys and Bradley We did a human timeline and acted out the events of the Anglo-Saxon era. We talked about what invaders and settlers are. We learnt about Anglo-Saxon clothes and houses. We did some drama based on an Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain. We have also learnt about Sutton Hoo and who was buried there: a King and all of his belongings. Mrs Pretty had a large house. She had some children and a husband and died in the 1950s. ‘Gold Book’ celebrations In this space we celebrate children who have recently been entered into the ‘Gold Book’ for all sorts of reasons, but particularly for good, kind, helpful, thoughtful and caring behaviour. We think all of our children behave well but sometimes the acts of individuals require special recognition. Some of the reasons this time include honesty, looking after new children, excellent work, being very observant and very good country dancing and some children appear in the Gold Book more than once. Well done to Lauren, Emily, Tilly, Danny, Oliver, Noah, Martine, Logan Farmer, Harvey, Daniel Worby, Ronnie, Alfie, James, Harrison, Daniel Salt, Oakley, George Selby, Sienna, Freddie, George Murray, Fraser, Theo, Scarlett, Jess Thomas, Chloe, Mason, Annie-Rose, Noel, Ben, Logan White, Phoebe, William, Beatrice, Jessica Olbison, Olivia, Florence, Elliot, Lydia, Jaidan, Harry Seys, Harvey, Ryan, Shannon, Ashya, Ronnie, Finn, Jess Hendry, Esther, Logan Sayer, Daniel Corble, Isaac, Sam, Haiden, Eryn. Zach, all of Beech Tree Class for exemplary behaviour while at Ringsfield Hall and all Year 3,4 and 5 children who helped ‘Phil the Van’! RUN A MILE A beautiful sunny afternoon was spent out on the field with the whole school taking part in our sponsored ‘Run a mile’. Dominique Cross, Matilda, Jacob and Jessica’s mum, came to represent Barclays Bank, who are kindly matching our fundraising effort. The run was started off by Ms Hemmings and many of the children were able to beat their own personal best in the number of laps they achieved. We all had great fun! We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support with this event. Once all of the sponsor money comes in, we will update you on how much was raised. NORWICH CASTLE ….. Drama with Freya. First we went with a Viking lady called Freya and went to act as Vikings . We got dressed up in Viking clothes and we did Viking jobs. We also pretended to be dragons. Freya pretended to kill us. She told us a story and we acted it out. The story was about some Vikings that try to find a new land but get caught in a storm! Then they have to slay a dragon! We also went to look round an exhibition about the book ‘How to Train Your Dragon.’ We got to dress up as Vikings and we went in a Viking boat. The exhibition also had the original drawings and notes for the books – the day was amazing, it was like we were real Vikings! by Alice and Shannon MATHS SLIP, SLAP, SLOP! Cherry Tree Class have been doing lots of maths. We have been learning about shapes, how many sides they have and their names. Some shapes like cylinders and spheres can roll but cuboids cannot roll. Also in maths we have been measuring our heights, our feet and our femurs. The femur is the longest bone in our bodies. In our investigation we found out that the tallest person doesn’t always have the biggest feet!
