Cambridge Boat Club Position Description for Head Coach The Cambridge Boat Club (CBC) is excited to announce our search for a Head Rowing Coach. About Cambridge Boat Club CBC has an active membership of over 300 rowers, primarily scullers, with a wide range of skills and goals. Our members include recreational masters, competitive masters, juniors and collegiate U23 athletes. Last year, CBC members won medals at the Olympics, World Championships, Canadian Henley and Masters National. We have an enviable location on the Charles River, an excellent fleet of racing shells, a modern launch, and indoor equipment. About this Position The position requires a motivated self-starter who is enthusiastic about developing training programs, coaching and working with a diverse group of rowers. The head coach will collaborate with a board-designated representative to build on the coaching programs offered at CBC for the past several years. Typically, the coach works with masters rowers in the mornings while junior programs run in the afternoons. The head coach may choose to earn additional income by offering private coaching and video review to CBC members. This is a full-year position. Program Planning and Management – Plan all of the coaching programs for CBC masters. Coordinate all aspects of the competitive junior rowing program in coordination with a board-designated representative. 2. On-the-Water Coaching – Coach 12 sessions a week, geared to different abilities and boat types five or six days a week. Run scrimmages in preparation for spring and fall racing seasons. 3. Training and Workout Plans – Provide training plans year-round for club members. 4. Junior and U23 Programs – Lead CBC’s year-round competitive junior program. Provide guidance for the club’s summer learn-to-scull program for juniors as needed. 5. Assistant Coaches – Recruit and manage assistant coaches as needed to cover the club’s coaching needs. 6. Regatta Coordinator – Assist competitive masters in their training for local and out-of-town regattas. Help organize lineups for the club’s annual Invitation Regatta (mid-July) and Master’s Nationals during the years it takes place in New England. 7. Winter Training – Lead a winter training program from November through March. 8. Speaker Series – Arrange for experts in exercise physiology, rowing, and other relevant topics to offer educational sessions to CBC members. 9. Fleet Maintenance and Safety – Help enforce the policies of the CBC Rowing Committee regarding rowing safety, proper boat handling, and reporting boat damage when it occurs. Requirements: 1. Track record of excellence in coaching sculling and sweep rowing for a variety of ages and skill sets. 2. Knowledge of rigging and boat maintenance and repair. 3. Knowledge of rowing physiology and effective training techniques. 4. First Aid, CPR, AED and SafeSport certification. 5. Demonstrated ability to safely operate and maintain launches. Attributes: 1. Able to organize and motivate groups of various sizes. 5. Able to effectively communicate with rowers of all abilities and experience levels. Compensation: Compensation will include health care insurance. Salary level will be commensurate with experience.
