The Jungle Rumble!
Tiger Archers Head to State
Coach Buttery’s Archery Team has hit the bull’s-eye in less than two
years. After a fantastic showing at the recent Eleventh Region Championship,
the team qualified to go to the State Competition. The CCHS Archery Team
placed third overall. The Kentucky Archery Competition will held in Louisville, on March 16th through March 19th.
Pictured with their medals are top Tiger scorers: Devin Breedlove
and Josh Jackson. Devin placed FIRST in the Girl’s Division. Josh placed
FIFTH in the Boy’s Division. Coach Buttery had high praise for these individuals, as well as the entire team. He said, “I am amazed at how far we have
come in less than years. This just proves that dedication and hard work combine to create fantastic results.” Good luck , Archers!
Academic Team Makes History
“This was their finest hour..” Winston
Churchill’s famous quote, once used to describe the
British soldiers defending their empire from the Nazi’s,
can accurately describe the performance of Coach Rex
Bray’s team at their Regional Competition on February
16th. For the first time in
history, these bright minded students brought home
the first place title overall,
along with snatching first
place in the Quick Recall
section and having many
students place in the individual test section.
Rex Bray III, senior, placed 2nd in Math and
1st in Social Studies. Douglas Harris, senior, placed
3rd in both the Math and Science sections. Nathan
Burns, senior, placed 4th in the Math section. Mason
Rice, junior, placed 1st in the Arts & Humanities section and 2nd in the Language Arts section. Teddy
Woods, junior, placed 1st in
the Science section. Cody
Hacker, sophomore, placed
4th in the Science section.
These students, along
with Aaron Smith, Taylor Shepherd, Marissa Alley, Megan
Davisson, Will Davis, Jeremy
Ball, and Brian Spencer competed in the Quick Recall section and won first place as a team. These are some of
CCHS’s brightest students and the Jungle Rumble staff
congratulates them on their victory!
Scholarship Round-Up
It’s that time of year again: seniors gearing
up to apply for any scholarship opportunity
they’re eligible for and juniors are beginning to
panic when they realize that they have no clue as
to what college they want to attend. It happens
every year, but no worries, The Jungle Rumble
has got you covered.
On February 22nd, 2013, recruiters from
Union and Alice Lloyd will be visiting our school
to talk to students about what their schools have
to offer. Talking with a recruiter is a very helpful
way of finding out what the campus is like and can
assist a student in their college decision. On
March 6th, 2013, recruiters from Western Kentucky University will be visiting CCHS.
On March 21st, 2013, the College and Career Fair will be held. This event is a great opportunity to talk to recruiters from many different colleges and trade schools. There will be more career planning events held at CCHS in March as
part of Operation Preparation. We will print details and dates in our next issue.
Also, there are a few important dates you
need to know if you’re applying for a scholarship.

Dream Fulfilled— Hyde Makes It Official
I’ve known Jacob most of my life, from running the ball behind him
at Manchester Elementary, to meeting at the quarterback in high school. I
recently witnessed my friend, Jacob, fulfilling his life-time goal of becoming a Division 1 football player at UK.
Jacob is not what you would consider a “prima donna” by no
means. Instead Jacob volunteers free time at God’s Closet aiding with the
less fortunate citizens around the county. During all of Jacobs success, he
also has a job and works 30 or more hours a week at Pat’s Snack Bar as a
cook, server, cashier and pretty much anything that needs done. During an
interview with Jacob, he mentioned he wouldn’t be where he is without the
Lord, his team, mother Patricia Hyde, Mark Deaton who is a father figure,
and his wife Ann. Jacob claims his success can be related to the ideas presented in the movie Blindside.“Mark and Ann took me under their wing
when I was in 8th grade. They have been there for me mentally and financially just like a parent would. They have grown to love me as their own, as
does the whole Deaton family. They have supported me in everything I did
and backed every decision I’ve made. They have been with me through
the whole recruiting process. It feels good to fulfill a long-time childhood
dream.”
To sum it up, Jacob has worked long and hard to accomplish his
goals and I’ve never seen the big guy more ecstatic than when he signed
the letter of intent on February 8th, to play football for the University of
Kentucky. Jacob also became the first Clay County High School football
player to sign with a Division 1 program.

Crafting for Charity’s “Make a Ruffled Scarf in One Hour Workshop” held on
Monday, February 11th was a huge success.
The workshop was $10 to attend (for nonclub members), and the fee included a ball
of yarn, a needle and professional how to
instructions by Ms. Mary Stevens herself.
About 20 eager guests attended, each acquiring an astonishingly simple skill that can
produce beautiful handiwork. Refreshments
were provided by the club sponsors. The
homemade peanut butter cookies and 7 layer bars were a hit with the guests. Ms. Travis
and Ms. Stevens are very proud of their club
and hope to have many more workshops in
the future. Also, the club will be selling
Tiger and UK versions of the ruffled scarves
for $15. If interested, please see either one
of these ladies for more details.
