Boys SOFTBALL TRIALS - 2017
Darling Downs School Sport will be entering a team in the Queensland State Championships in
Toowoomba from August 24 - 27, 2017.
A Regional Boys 10-12 years and under Softball Trial is to be held in March. Zones are to
conduct zone trials to nominate suitable individuals using the selection criteria. NO ZONE TEAM
IS REQUIRED.

$5.00 per student. No money is to be paid at the trial.

The DD Sports Office will invoice the Zone Treasurer’s School after the regional trial
for the regional trial levy plus GST.

Convenors are to ensure that students nominated for the trial are aware that their
school will be invoiced by the Zone Treasurer’s school for this fee.
Students must pay their school office.

Zone Convenors are to note which students are nominated for the trial and pass this
information onto the Zone Treasurer’s School.

At the conclusion of the trial, a team of 12 players will be selected.
This team will train once a month on Sunday morning during the months of
April, May, June & July.
MEDICAL/PERMISSION FORMS
All players must bring a completed DD Trial Permission Form to the regional trial. NO FORM means
the student will be unable to trial on the day.

SELECTION CRITERIA
THE STUDENT WILL:

Be able to work successfully in a team situation
Display sportsmanship at all times
Be able to throw a softball a distance of 25 metres with a hard, flat trajectory
Catch in a glove, a ball which has been thrown with reasonable speed - 9 out of 10 times
Catch a ball thrown into the air at a height of at least 10 metres and from a distance of 10
metres - 8 out of 10 times
Hit a ball pitched with reasonable speed from a distance of 10 metres - 8 out of 10 times
Run 20 metres, from a standing start to a complete stop in approximately 4 seconds
Pitch a ball, with speed, fairly accurately
Be fit and able to slide
Be able to field a ball rolled to them - 8 out of 10 times
MUST MEET CRITERIA 1 & 2 AND MAJORITY OF 3 - 10

NOTE:
A team of twelve ( 12) boys 12 years or under in the year of the trials will be selected prior to the
State Championships being held in Toowoomba from 24 - 27 August.
This team will train once a month on Sunday mornings commencing in April. Team players are to
attend the majority of training sessions.
Zone to select boys on an individual basis.
