Chinese Culture Activity Day at Coomera Springs State School On 26th November 2014 the Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI) at Griffith University was invited to the Coomera Springs State School to organise cultural activities. The TCI teachers prepared Chinese knot making and Jianzi making activities for more than one hundred primary students whom are learning Chinese. In the Chinese knot making class, the students learned how to make the Chinese traditional knot “Ji Xiang knot”, which means lucky in Chinese. They decorated their bags by using knots they made by themselves. They also created necklaces and bracelets by using the “Ping knot” they learned in class. One of students made a bracelet for the TCI Chinese Director Shaofang Liu to show his thanks for organising these activities. Jianzi is not only a kind of popular sport in China, but also in Australia. In Jianzi making class, students learned about the different kinds of Jianzi and the different methods of kicking it. They used plastic paper and washers to make a simple Jianzi. After making the Jianzi, they could hardly wait go out to kick it. All of the TCI staff enjoyed watching the students happily kicking the Jianzi. Ms Ruan, the Chinese teacher at Coomera Springs State School, said that it was a really great activity and it helped the students have fun learning Chinese.
