Introduction: Introduce the task and explain the importance of public speaking and
how it can help with learning.
Starter: Students will list as many different species of tree which they think are native
to the U.K. as they can.
Development of lesson: (Learning Activities)
Students: All will: Research basic information on a species of tree, produce a short
presentation and present this to the rest of the class
Most will: Research basic information on a species of tree and include details on lifecycle. Use this research to produce a short presentation and present it to the rest of the
class.
Some will: Research basic information on a species of tree and include details on lifecycle, population sizes and the importance of that tree to the rest of the habitat. Use
this research to produce a short presentation and present it to the rest of the class.
Teacher will ensure all learners are making better than expected progress by having
pace in the lesson and constantly checking that students are working at an appropriate
level.
Students will work independently using computers to do research on a species of tree
which is native to the U.K. They will then put all of the information they have gathered
into a short PowerPoint presentation and present it to the class which will help with
confidence and public speaking.
If a student requires help they will be encouraged to ask a peer before approaching the
teacher. This will improve confidence.

Plenary: Students will have a question and answer session. If a student has a question
they can put their hand up to ask it. Then, if another student has the answer, they can
put their hand up and provide the answer.
