On-call service
The main purpose of our on-call service is to troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions quickly whenever they
occur. During normal business hours you can reach your
assigned contact person at the usual telephone number.
In addition, our 24/7 hotline is available both during and
after business hours.
The hotline is staffed at all times with systems experts
who are already familiar with your system. Doubly backed
up to ensure availability at all times, the hotline provides
assistance whenever there is a need to clarify or correct
failures, questions or problems encountered during
operations.
For every on-call service order there is an associated system
profile. This system profile is stored in a documentation
database and contains a condensed summary of all
important data pertaining to your system, such as dial-in
numbers, passwords, IP configurations, a description of
your system, system photographs, structural diagrams and
much more.
Our on-call services fall into three basic categories:

The availability of our on-call service (24/7/365) is
ensured with a single, unvarying service number.
Resulting work hours are billed against time and effort
and according to the hourly rates specified in the quote.
On-call service with dial-in option:
In addition to our telephone support service, we can also

On-call service with on-site troubleshooting:
If the problem is one that cannot be resolved over the
telephone or through our dial-in option, our service

The Bilfinger GreyLogix service team derives its high-level
knowledge from the constant enhancement of objectives,
practices and skills which takes place through internal
and external training.
All of our service technicians are qualified to conduct
inspections within an explosive area in accordance with
§ 14 (1 – 3) and § 15 BetrSichV (German Industrial Safety
and Health Regulation). They also bring profound knowledge on PROFIBUS analysis as well as measuring and
inspections according to DGUV V 3 (regulations of the
German employers’ liability insurance associations).
Completing this package are the appropriate certificates
of expertise for DGUV Regel 103-003 (work in enclosed
spaces in wastewater facilities) and DGUV Regel 101-004
(expertise for work in contaminated areas).

is yearly servicing. We correct impending or emerging

Testing according to DGUV V 3
In their safety regulation, DGUV V 3, the German employers’ liability insurance associations call for regular testing
of all electrical equipment. This means that anything
operated with mains voltage and used in a business
enterprise or public institution should be tested within a
specified period of time. Every monitor, every coffee
maker, every soldering bit - even extension cables - must
be checked at certain intervals and the test results have to
be carefully logged.
Although DGUV V 3 is not compulsory by law, it is
advisable to subject your facilities to annual inspection.
It is assumed that there are relevant, exception clauses in
your companies insurance policy, which will take effect
if you neglect to comply with statutory or regulatory
requirements. These exempt the insurer from liability in
the event of a claim and release it from any duty to pay.
This means that if there is an accident with a piece of
equipment or a system for which no proof of recurring
inspections can be produced, your insurance cover is void.
The operator must bear the cost of everything from
monetary damages to medical treatment. It is therefore
strongly recommended that items covered by your agreement be subjected to semi-annual or annual testing in
accordance with the DGUV Rule 3.

The storage of spare parts is an important consideration in any plan to maximise the
availability of a system. In most cases, a system can only be quickly restored to working
order by replacing defective parts. However, the cost factor of storing spare parts along
with the associated logistical effort should not be underestimated.
The purpose of our spare parts management program is to minimise administrative
overheads and storage costs and avoid unnecessary storage of spare parts that are not
system-critical. Therefore, to ensure that systems operate cost-effectively and at a high
performance level, it is necessary to keep system-critical spare parts on site within reach.
This ensures that the required parts are available when failures occur. Our spare parts
strategy includes identifying the system-critical and non-redundant spare parts and
keeping them in reserve: i.e. as few as possible, but as many as necessary.

electrical energy by minimising reactive power, maintaining constant voltages and reducing harmonics.
These harmonic oscillations are becoming common
phenomena especially in today’s widespread drive control
systems (soft starters and frequency inverters).

Profibus analysis
All PROFIBUS networks are by nature subject to wear and
tear. Bilfinger GreyLogix recommends regular inspection
of your PROFIBUS network beginning from when your
system first goes into operation, which would capture
the actual state of the network and serves as a reference
for future measurements. Regular annual inspections can
detect signs of wear and prevent undesired downtimes.
Adequately documenting the results of such an analysis
is essential for an evaluation of the state of the system.
Today we have ample proof that preventive maintenance
is more cost-effective than corrective maintenance. For
this reason, the PROFIBUS analysis is a component of every

The purpose of electrothermography is early detection of anomalies in electrical

existing system.
The digital watchman | ARGOSPro monitoring system
ARGOSPro is a specially developed and customer-specific
IT monitoring system. When a malfunction occurs, it is
immediately reported to the user. The warning message
contains information on the type and severity of the event.
All IP-capable network components can be integrated into
the monitoring system. The components may be servers,
switches, environmental sensors or even system control
units. Detailed status information can be retrieved through
the SNMP interfaces and warning messages or alarms
are generated when predefined limits are exceeded.
ARGOSPro makes it possible to monitor your entire IT
infrastructure (see illustration).
With the PLC integrated protocol interface (SiPS)
internally developed by Bilfinger GreyLogix, alarm
messages and process data from the PLC can be
captured, read in, compiled and redirected to ARGOSPro.
Thus a unique connection is created between the PC
and PCS 7 environments requiring only one monitoring
solution to watch over both environments. Furthermore, PROFIBUS monitoring systems from third-party
vendors can be integrated as well.

it to your local area network and to avoid at all cost
connecting it to the Internet. This means that storage
media such as CD drives, USB flash drives and USB hard
drives can no longer be available for data exchange.
However, the trend of development over the last several
years has taken precisely that direction. It is therefore
imperative that you use antivirus protection to safeguard
your system. Recently, an increasing number of attacks
have been made against PLC systems. Cleverly designed
viruses, some of them extremely sophisticated, exploit
specific vulnerabilities in Windows systems either to
export sensitive data and transfer it to the attacker or
even to manipulate the systems they attack.
Anti-virus test system
Bilfinger GreyLogix implements system-compatible
intelligent virus scanners that are adapted to the
customer’s needs and requests.
A virus scanner test environment provides absolute
security. This system allows you to test new virus
definition files in a test environment for possible flaws.
The master-slave system is a small-scale reflection of the
customer’s system. It provides an environment into which
you can import the newest virus definition files and in
which you can test their effects on your system without
putting your system at risk. The new virus definition files
are imported into the real system only after a flawless test
phase is completed.

Secure remote dial-in
When implementing remote dial-in solutions, we work
according to the highest security standards in the world:
those required for CC EAL 4+ certification by the German
Federal Office for Information Security. We guarantee
compliance with these standards by using high-quality
VPN routers. The versatility of these routers also allows
us to set up an encrypted tunnel for networking multiple
locations, one through which even the most confidential
information can be exchanged without hesitation. The
router also serves as a front-end firewall as the first line of
defence against external, non-authorized access. The
second line of defence constitutes a DMZ (demilitarised
zone) host, which provides an electrical isolation
between the network of the front and backend firewall.
The ARGOS Core computer behind it is accessible only
through an Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session. The
ARGOS Core computer constitutes the third line of defence
as a back-end firewall and offers protection for local
networks behind it. The data traffic in the automation
network is controlled by the ARGOS firewall. Thus the
recommendations of the Industrial Control Systems
Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT) are more
than sufficient. ARGOS Core also performs the further task
of monitoring the remote dial-in system and its components. Alerts for impending failures, overload conditions
or anomalies can be sent immediately by email, SMS or
voice SMS with escalation levels. This system has been
checked thoroughly in a rigorous penetration test, which
was conducted by an independent, external company with
IT security expertise, and it passed with distinction.
The system can be expanded with an optional FTP server
in order to make sensitive data securely available.
Another option is an upgrade from ARGOS Core to ARGOS Pro.
With ARGOS Pro you can expand your monitoring system
at the system level; i.e. the components on the system
bus, such as servers, switches, the PLC and PROFIBUS or
PROFINET* can be integrated into the system. All of the
information is presented on a customer-specific and
easy-to-understand web interface.
