principal hires the agent to perform a task, and the agent acquires an informational advantage about her type, her actions, or the outside world at some point in the game principal is the player with and the agent have the same information set and all variables are contractible second-best a second-best contract is Pareto optimal given information asymmetry and constraints on writing contracts no
