Key Components of Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy is proud to be partnering with the Space Foundation. This partnership allows students frequent visits to the on-site Space Foundation Discovery Institute. We offer an engaging relevant curriculum focusing on science, technology, engineering, and math. The curriculum is project-based and interdisciplinary and includes cutting edge technology tools that bring out students' creativity. Students have the opportunity to enhance their problem solving and critical thinking skills while working in mission simulator labs. We offer a variety of exploratory classes and extra-curricular activities to enhance the learning experience. Students are enrolled in the four core subjects and also have the option to take electives in Art, Foreign Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy (JSAA) is named in honor of former astronaut and Colorado Congressman-elect John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr., opened fall of 2009 with a space-related curriculum designed to drive proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Jack Swigert MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the D11 Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy is to launch students toward a brighter future, preparing our students to achieve academic excellence using aerospace as a motivating, meaningful, and rigorous curriculum and instruction theme to inspire, enable and propel our next generation of explorers. Values: Academics, Rigor, Relevance, Relationships, Respect, Responsibility Language, Orchestra, Guitar, Band, Choir, Drama, Physical Education, Rocketry, Gifted and Talented enrichment classes, Robotics, and Gateway to Technology. Students see connections between hands-on projects and academic subjects such as math, science, language arts, and social studies. In the Gateway to Technology (GTT) class, students use geometry, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management skills to design and develop product prototypes. Students explore the technology of aeronautics, propulsion, and rocketry. GTT harnesses the enthusiasm and energy of middle school students. The program focuses on showing, not telling, and students learn how to use engineering skills to solve everyday problems. The primary focus is on stronger math, science, and technology inquiry skills. As a community-based school, we believe that children are best served by a joint commitment between parents, community members and educators. We encourage parent involvement in the educational process through frequent interaction with teachers. Students are encouraged to explore their personal interests through our extensive afterschool program that includes extracurricular, intramurals, clubs and tutoring. At Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy, we allow our students the opportunity to participate in an engaging aerospace related curriculum that allows their imagination to take flight and empower them to reach their goals. We are proud of our partnerships with the community and we will reach new heights with innovative instructional techniques that will help make your child successful in their future. “The most important thing we can do is inspire young minds and to advance the kind of science, math and technology education that will help youngsters take us to the next phase of space travel.” — John Glenn; astronaut and former U.S. Senator Computer Problem Solving If your computer is having issues, consider restarting it before seeking help. Software issues can be solved by contacting the district help desk at 520-2211 or by email through [email protected] See your LTE or LTT for hardware issues. Engage: D11 encourages its employees to responsibly explore – indeed, to further the development of – new spaces of relationship-building, learning and collaboration. 2. Use your good judgment: As in physical communities, good and bad will be found in virtual worlds. You will need to exercise good judgment as to how to react in these situations – including whether to opt out or proceed. 3. Protect your – and D11’s – good name: At this point in time, assume that activities in virtual worlds and/or the 3D Internet are public (open and visible to all) – much as is participation in public chat rooms or blogs. Be mindful that your actions may be visible for a long time. 4. Protect others’ privacy: It is inappropriate to disclose or use D11’s or our students’ confidential information – or any personal information of any other person or company (including their real name) – within a virtual world. 5. Make the right impression: Your avatar’s appearance should be reasonable and fitting for the activities in which you engage (especially if conducting D11 business). If you are engaged in a virtual world primarily for D11 business purposes, we strongly encourage you to identify your avatar as affiliated with D11. If you are engaged primarily for personal uses, consider using a different avatar. 6. Be truthful and consistent: Building a reputation of trust within a virtual world represents a commitment to be truthful and accountable with fellow digital citizens. You may be violating such trust by dramatically altering your digital persona's behavior or abandoning your digital persona to another operator who changes its behavior. If you are the original creator or launcher of a digital persona, you have a higher level of responsibility for its behavior. 7. Be a good 3D Netizen: D11ers should be thoughtful, collaborative and innovative in their participation in virtual world communities – including in deliberations over behavioral/social norms and rules of thumb. 8. Don’t Friend Students: Separate your personal life. Keep it personal. 9. Don’t play virtual games: Farmville, Farmtown, Mafia Wars are great to play at home but eat bandwith in the office. 10. Know we track usage. At any time, at the request of a supervisor, we can pull all internet usage by employee.
