
Match-ups for Match Play will be slightly different for 2017. For Match Plays #1,#3,#5 and #6 we
will be using the standard method to determining match- ups. I.E. 1st place will play 2nd place, 3rd
place will play 4th place, etc. For Match Plays #2 & #4 we will be introducing an Odd/Even
method for determining match-ups. I.E. 1st place will play 3rd place, 2nd place will play 4th place

SECTION 3 – STROKE PLAY EVENTS:
STROKE PLAY FORMAT
GHOST SUBS
RAIN CHECKS
STROKE PLAY FORMAT

Each week, four members of your team will play their own ball. All four total scores will
be added up and this will be called the gross score. At that point, all four handicaps will
then be subtracted from the total. This will give a team net score for the day. Your
team will earn two points for every team that has a higher net score and one point for
every team that you tie. The total amount of points to be earned will be determined by
the amount of teams that join the league multiplied by two. Non-registered
substitutes’ scores will not be accepted.

Any player whose green fee is not paid prior to teeing off will be disqualified from
scoring on that day. The team will be given a ghost score of 75.
GHOST SUBS

If less than four players play in a regular season round, ghost sub scores will be added
for each missing player. The ghost sub’s score is a 75 for nine holes and a zero
handicap.
RAIN CHECKS

In the event of a rainstorm where the course is either closed, or it is determined that
it is unsuitable for league play, all matches for that day will be cancelled. There will
be no rescheduling of regular season play for rainouts.

In the event of rain during a round a minimum of 50% of the teams must completely
finish their rounds for the round to count.

If less than 50% of teams finish their rounds Rain Checks will be issued for the night.

If 50% or more of the teams finish their round no Rain Checks will be issued.

In the event 50% of teams finish the teams who have not finished will have the
remainder of their score prorated.
o The un-played holes will be scored based upon the average vs. par for the holes
which were played. (EX. Player A has a score of 33 for the 6 holes he completed.
Par on those holes is 23; therefore he is 10 over par. His average over par is 1.67
strokes per hole. The 3 remaining holes would be scored as 5 over par. His total
gross score for the round would then be a 50.).

SECTION 4 – MATCH PLAY EVENTS:
MATCH PLAY FORMAT
MATCH UP DETERMINATION
GHOST SUBS
RAIN CHECKS
MATCH PLAY FORMAT

We will be hosting head-to-head match play events approximately once per month
throughout the season. There will be a shotgun start for everyone during these weeks.
These events will be handicapped as they have been in the past.

Match Play Event: In this format, each hole will be worth 2 point to the winner of hole.
One point will be awarded to each player for halved holes. The winner of each match
will get an additional 6 points.

The two lowest handicaps of each team will be playing against each other in the same
foursome. In addition to the match, we will also be scoring the teams using the
regular weekly format. Please finish out each hole and record the score. Match play
events will also utilize the double par rule except when both opposing players reach
double par.

Regular scoring will also take place. Scores will be prorated for the un-played holes
based upon the average vs. par for the holes which were played. (EX. Player A has a
score of 33 for the 6 holes he completed. Par on those holes is 23, therefore he is 10
over par. His average over par is 1.67 strokes per hole. The 3 remaining holes would be
scored as 5 over par. His total gross score for the round would then be a 50.)
MATCH UP DETERMINATION

NEW FOR 2017 - Match-ups for Match Play will be slightly different for 2017. For
Match Plays #1,#3,#5 and #6 we will be using the standard method to determining
match- ups. I.E. 1st place will play 2nd place, 3rd place will play 4th place, etc. For Match
Plays #2 & #4 we will be introducing a Odd/Even method for determining match-ups. I.E.
1st place will play 3rd place, 2nd place will play 4th place etc. If you have any questions
regarding the new method please contact Chad Kennedy or Jim Gibson.
GHOST TEAMS/SUBS

In the event that there are an odd number of teams in the league the last place team
will play as a foursome and be scored against the ghost team. The ghost team players
will shoot the league average for each hole on that nine with a pre-determined. Points
will be awarded as in normal match play.

In the event a team is short a player for the entire nine, the missing player will be scored
as ghost substitute scoring as cited above.

When a ghost substitute is used an additional score of 75 will be added to the team’s
net score.
RAIN CHECKS

In the event that severe weather causes a suspension of play or a cancellation of play
during match play event the following rule will be utilized:

If all matches have completed 5 holes, Match Points will be awarded to the player
leading after the completion of 5 holes.

No match points will be awarded even if a match has been closed out if ANY MATCH
HAS NOT COMPLETED 5 HOLES. If all matches have completed 5 holes, points earned by
winning a hole or halving a hole shall be awarded to the respective team.

The number of holes scored will be equal to the lowest number of holes completed by a team
that evening. (EX. If 12 matches finish 8 holes, 4 matches finish 7 holes and 2 matches finish 6
holes, then all matches will be scored on only the first 6 holes played.)

If the matches count Rain Checks will not be issued

If the matches do not count, full rain checks will be issued.
MINEBROOK GOLF LEAGUE RULES
SECTION 5 – HANDICAPS:
HANDICAP SCORING

Handicap scoring will be done using a program called League Manager. Information
about this system is available at www.golfsoftware.com.

Handicaps ending with .49 or less are rounded down, .5 or higher are rounded up.

Players who have played in the league in 2016 will automatically have their last 10
scores carried over to form the basis of their 2017 handicap.

Players who did not play in the league in 2016 but played in the league in prior years
will have their scores carried over if their play was in the past 3 yrs.

The handicap for the league will consist of only league play and a maximum of 2 league
practice rounds. In order for practice rounds to be counted they must be shot at
Minebrook during the practice round period (the 3 weeks prior to the start of the
season).

The maximum handicap allowed for the weekly team scoring for any player in the
league is 18.

A maximum score of double par will instituted for all league rounds. For example, if a
player lies 8 from the fairway on a par 4, that player will pick up their ball and their
score will be recorded as an 8. This rule does not apply to match play when both
players reach double par.

A sample handicap calculation sheet may be found by clicking on the link found on
the league page.

If anyone would like more information about how their handicap is being calculated,
please see Chad Kennedy for details. We can provide a statistics packet from 2016 that
will explain everyone’s handicap.
