FLAVIA VISSAT
Flavia Vissat is our Silver
Star for the month of
July. Flavia is perhaps
our only resident born
outside the U.S., naming
her birthplace as Naples,
Italy. With her three
siblings she moved to the
U.S. as a child, finished
high school at 16, and
graduated with a BA
and master of science in
education from Queens
College, New York. In
her youth she enjoyed
roller skating and
dancing, and continued
to use those talents later
in life.
Flavia married a U.S.
serviceman, Peter Vissat,
Silver Star: Flavia Vissat
and raised two children;
she has five grandchildren. She had a career as an elementary school
teacher, but also taught dancing at Arthur Murray and participated in
roller skating dance competitions.
Flavia’s happiest times were when traveling with her husband, and they
visited many countries, including much of Europe, Mexico, Bonaire,
Israel and, in the U.S., California and Hawaii. Most fascinating were
Hawaii, Cypress and Cuba. It has been a challenge for her to live without
Peter since his passing in 2000; her family is “one thing she couldn’t
live without.”
While her later life included hobbies of Scrabble, reading and dancing,
Flavia says she is proudest of having “educated young minds,” her greatest
achievement. She has lived an interesting and productive life, and we at the
Barrington salute her.

EVENT RECAP the month of may
May proved to be a big month for celebrations, including
our Mother’s Day social, which once again proved to be
a huge success. The “Old West Family Night” welcomed
many family members and friends with vintage photos as
mementos of the event. The month also included a Reds
Barbara, Marion and Richard getting ready to take flight!
THIS MONTH’S chart
game, an outing to the symphony, Playhouse in the Park
and an Ault Park picnic. Richard Bowers was awarded the
winner of the paper plane flying contest. May ended on a
high note with a hot air balloon ride for those who were
feeling adventurous!

CARING, HONESTY, APPRECIATION,
RESPECT, TEAMWORK
JANE has lived in Cincinnati all her life.
She graduated from Holmes High School
and considered herself a tomboy who enjoyed
swimming, roller skating and bowling. Jane’s
mother was the most important person in her
life. She remembers her mom telling a story
about being pregnant with Jane. As the story

goes, Jane’s mother never experienced any
morning sickness or labor pains during the birth. Jane’s mom explained that
Jane’s dad suffered all the ailments of pregnancy and childbirth. Jane told me she
was born feet first and has been running ever since!
Jane had a lucrative career as a real estate agent before she came to work at
Barrington. In fact, she won a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for consistently
meeting her sales goals. Now she splits her working time between Kroger and
Barrington. All the beautiful flowers you see sitting outside the Activity Room
are courtesy of Miss Jane! Jane dreams of one day being a comedian.
Jane describes herself as always being honest and dependable. She credits her
mother with instilling in her a good set of ethics and morals. The passing of
Jane’s mother was the most challenging time of her life.
Jane loves working at Barrington. She is convinced the Activity Department has
helped with expanding her many crafting skills. She credits the residents with
giving her a better understanding of the aging process. Jane’s dream job at the
Barrington would be the concierge’s position, because “that is where the action
is.” Wherever Jane works at the Barrington she brings a giant ray of sunshine.
We all love Jane and feel lucky to have her as part of the Barrington family.
